Fanfic: The Sodor Engines Specials: Sodor, Part One
Plot
Sir Topham Hatt leaves Sodor for his annual holiday after bringing in two new engines, Diesel 10 and Stephen.
Script
(Camera shows Sodor, but it is so high you can’t see the railway lines.)
Narrator: There are many railways in our world. I doubt that there is a single one of you who has never ridden on a train. You will all agree with me when I say there is something special when you’re on a train, something almost . . . . . magic.
(Camera zooms in. Railway lines are faintly visible.)
Narrator: One railway is particularly famous. It’s on the island of Sodor. The engines there are very special.
(Zooms in on Thomas, Annie, and Clarabel. Their faces aren’t visible yet.)
Narrator: The engines are hard-working and run their trains like clockwork.
(Camera zooms and spins. We see Thomas form the front-left.)
Narrator: This is Thomas. He runs suburban passenger trains with his coaches, Annie and Clarabel. Thomas, although small, has done a lot of big things in his life. This story tells of the greatest adventures this tank engine has ever had.
(Screen goes black. The word "Sodor" appears in blue.)
Narrator: One bright summer day, Thomas pulled into Knapford station, where Sir Topham Hatt, their controller, was to address all the engines.
Thomas: Percy, what do you think this is about?
Percy: I don’t know. You can never tell what Sir Topham Hatt is going to say.
James: Maybe he’ll give me a new coat of paint!
Gordon: It’s probably about my speed record I set the other day.
Henry: He’s going to finally give me Welsh coal!
Edward and Toby: Shush!
Sir Topham Hatt: As you all know, my annual holiday is coming up very soon. I’ll be leaving tomorrow. I’m highly confident that all of my engines can be responsible, reliable, and really useful, even if I’m not there.
All of the engines: Yes Sir!
Sir Topham Hatt: I’ve also noticed that we’ve been having extra traffic this year, so I’m borrowing two engines that will stay until the end of the summer.
Narrator: Just then, two engines rolled up. One was a class 42 diesel engine with a claw, and the other was an E4 tank engine. The E4 looked like Thomas, except that he was longer, bigger, and had two trailing wheels underneath his cab.
Sir Topham Hatt: The class 42 is called Diesel 10, and his claw is an experiment. It will be useful for loading and unload things without a crane. The E4 is named Stephen. Thomas, he’ll be helping you with your passenger trains.
Thomas: Hello, Stephen.
Stephen: Hello, everyone. I’ve heard so much about this railway. It’s great to actually see it.
Narrator: And with that, the two new arrivals headed away.
Henry: Stephen has very good manners.
Gordon: He does indeed. don't you think, Thomas?
Thomas: I don't know . . .
Narrator: Sir Topham Hatt was leaving the next day. The engines hurried to get their jobs done early so they could see Sir Topham Hatt leave. They arrived just as he was getting onto his plane.
Sir Topham Hatt: Farewell! Work hard in my absence!
Narrator: Then he entered the plane and the door was closed. The plane coasted down the runway before taking off. The engines watched for a little bit longer before they headed off to finish their jobs.
Toby: I hope that Sodor can run properly without Sir Topham Hatt.
Thomas: Don’t worry. Everything’ll be just fine.
(Cut to the yards)
Narrator: Later that day, Thomas was shunting trucks when he saw Stephen pulling Annie and Clarabel.
Thomas: Hey! Those are my coaches!
Stephen: Terribly sorry, Thomas.
Narrator: But the look on Stephen's face told Thomas that he wasn't sorry at all. Thomas watched as he puffed from the yard.
Annie: Stephen is very good at pulling coaches.
Clarabel: He's very gentle and never bumps us.
Thomas: Everyone thinks Stephen is so wonderful. But he's not. I just know it.
