Plot

Thomas, Percy and James arrive on Sodor, and Thomas saves the opening day ceremony.

Script

(A brown, faded map of Sodor, with the Isle of Man and British Mainland on either side)

Narrator: There's a large island in the Irish sea. It's located directly between the Isle of Man and the British Mainland and is called the Island of Sodor.

(A large, red, arrow points at Sodor)

Narrator: Now, on Sodor a new railway ia being built. It will be called the North Western Railway, and is run by a man named Sir Topham Hatt. Today, he's at Brendam Docks, waiting with his locomotives for a batch of new engines to be unloaded. Let's take a look.

(Scene changes to Brendam Docks. A stout man is standing in front of his three engines. The first is a Edward, a blue, "Larger Seagull" 4-4-0 tender engine. The second is Henry, a garter blue "Black 5" 4-6-0 tender engine, and the third is Gordon, a brunswick green A1 4-6-2 tender engine)

Edward: Sir, when will the new engines be unloaded?

Sir Topham Hatt: Any minute now, Edward. Ah! Here's the first one now!

Narrator: The new engine rolled into vieew. He was a black class 27 2-6-0 tender engine.

Sir Topham Hatt: James, I suppose?

James: Quite right. Percy will be unloaded next, then Thomas. Then we'll see about a new coat of paint after my long journey?

(Sir Topham Hatt chuckles)

Sir Topham Hatt: We'll see, James.

Narrator: Parcy was unloaded next. He was a grey 0-4-0 saddle tank engine.

Gordon: That leaves one more, I suppose.

Narrator: Just then, a whistle echoed through the docks as Thomas steamed into view.

(Thomas, a blue 0-6-0 E2 engine, steams up to Sir Topham Hatt)

Sir Topham Hatt: Here's Thomas, the last of them. Hello, Thomas.

Thomas: Hello, Mr. Hatt.

Sir Topham Hatt: That's all of them. Welcome to Sodor, everyone!

(Cut to Tidmouth sheds)

Edward: I, for one, would like to welcome these new engines to our home.

Gordon: Pshaw! They're just little engines! I'm still the fastest and strongest engine on Sodor!

Edward: (to Thomas, James, and Percy) Don't mind Gordon. He's usually very nice.

Henry: I'm feeling rather ill.

Edward: Maybe you took too much special coal.

Henry: That's not it! It's just my desig- AH-AH-AHCHOO!

(Henry sneezes out black coal dust over the other engines)

James: My beautiful paint!

(Sir Topham Hatt arrives)

Sir Topham Hatt: Opening day is approaching soon. Gordon, you will take the opening express. Henry, Edward, and James, you will take the other passengers and the ceremony goods. Thomas and Percy, you will shunt.

(He leaves)

Thomas: I wish I could pull the opening day express.

Percy: Maybe you can, Thomas!

Thomas: I doubt it . . .

(Cut to Tidmouth, decorated and ready for opening day. A large banner reads GRAND OPENING. Sir Topham Hatt is standing at a podium, with the nameplate Sir Topham Fatt on it. The F has been scribbled out and replaced with an H)

Sir Topham Hatt: It is with great honor that I announce the opening of the North Western Railway!

Conductor: All aboard!

(Gordon starts, rolls a few feet out of the station, and then stops again)

Gordon: What happened?

Gordon's Driver: You burst a cylinder. The only way this express will get pulled is if someone helps.

Thomas: I'll do it.

Narrator: Everyone looked at Thomas in suprise.

Conductor: Wny not? He'd be strong enough.

Narrator: And so Thomas coupled up to the back of the train. Together, Thomas and Gordon pulled and pushed the train out of the station.

(The express races across Sodor. Later, a red-faced Thomas puffs into Tidmouth sheds, where Sir Topham Hatt is waiting)

Thomas: Sir!

Sir Topham Hatt: Thomas, I'm very pleased with your work today. So I've decided to give you your own branch line, and two coaches.

Thomas: Thank you Sir!

(Cut to Thomas with two coaches, puffing through the countryside)

Narrator: Thomas nows runs his branch line, which runs from Knapford to Farquar. His two coaches are named Annie and Clarabel, and enjoys running with them. His branch line is a beautiful, and Thomas is as happy as can be, and will be for many more years to come.
