A 0-6-0 diesel-mechanical shunter built by Hunslet Engine Company, 1955-61. Numbered 11136-11176, later D2500-D2619;most were withdrawn when the 03/04 came into power, with the exception of 1 (D2554) D2554 was transfered to the Isle of Wight in 1966 to aid the electrical works, shortly afterwards it was given the TOPS number 05001, This Shunter was the only one to have a tops number, the main reason for this was that all the others were replaced, and that it was best suited for the island. it remained in service until c1985 before being sold to the isle of wight steam railway, havenstreet
There Engine is a Gardener 8-cyl, 4 stroke 8L3 of 204 hp (152 kW) connected to a Hunslet 4-speed and reverse gear box with Hunslet patent friction clutch
The Didcot Railway Centre has a working example, preserved after being used by the National Coal Board in the North East, and The Isle of Wight Steam Railway own 05001/ D2554, which can be seen frequently but unfortuently it cannot run passenger trains, due to the Islands Unique Vintage Air Brake Stock
