Plot

Edward and City of Wellsworth face off, and it seems certain one of them will be destroyed . . .

Script

Narrator Edward: Sammy raced into Knapford minutes after I had left.

Sammy: I've got to warn Edward!

Narrator Edward: But instead of me, Sammy found Abby and Zachariah, who had just been fired up.

Abby: Sammy? What are you doing here?

Sammy: City of Wellsworth's planning on destroying Edward and the roof glass by pushing him off a cliff on the Anopha line!

Zachariah: We'll go and warn him!

Sammy: I'm going too!

Abby: No, Sammy. We've just been fired up. You've been puffing all the way from Suddery. We'll catch up to him faster. You go tell the workers at Tidmouth.

(Cut to Edward, steaming up the steep, rocky slopes of the Anopha line)

Narrator Edward: I had arrived at an old yard that overlooked the abandoned quarry. I puffed by, but was suprised to find that the track was broken.

(City of Wellsworth chuffs up in front of him)

City of Wellsworth: Hello, Edward.

Edward: What are you doing here?

City of Wellsworth: I'm here to destroy you, of course. And that precious glass.

Edward: Is that how far the need for revenge has driven you?

City of Wellsworth: I never liked you, Edward. You were always a goody-six wheels. But then, you stole everything from me. So now I'm here to do the same. I'm not only going to destroy you, but the glass, too. For if I do that won't your reputation be ruined? And isn't reputation the only true way to immortatilty?

Edward: You aren't going to kill me. Not when the fate of Tidmouth is at stake.

(Edward shunts the glass trucks into a siding, then rolls forward to face CIty of Wellsworth, who smiles)

City of Wellsworth: Oh, really?

Narrator Edward: I fought him off as best I could, but he was bigger and stronger than me. He was poised to knock me off the cliff when suddenly, something shoved him onto another line.

(Abby appears right where City of Wellsworth had just been sitting, whith Zachariah right beside her)

Edward: Abby! And Zachariah!

Abby: Well, someone had to save you. Although you should also thank Sammy. He was the one who told me what happened. Now let's get this guy back to the yards.

Narrator Edward: Working together we quickly had him subdued, and were ready to taek him back to the yards.

Zachariah: Just wait till your supervisor hears about this! (Smiles broadly)

Narrator Edward: Abby had him on one siding, and the trucks were right behind. Then, suddenly, everything changed.

(City of Wellsworth pulls back hard)

Narrator Edward: I suppose City of Wellsworth was trying to escape, but it didn't work. It just made Abby's brakes fail, and City of Wellsworth's weight dragged them both down the sloped siding.

(City of Wellsworth crashes through the buffers, which slow him to a stop. His tender breaks loose, tumbling into the valley, and the rest of him is haging over the edge. He screams)

Narrator Edward: Zachariah secured the trucks while I rolled forward to help Abby.

Edward: I'll get them, Zachariah!

Narraotr Edward: I was coupled up in an instant, and started to pull back as hard as I could. I was pulling with all my puff, but it wasn't enough. I had never been a really strong engine, and the combined weight was nearly too much.

Abby: (quietly) Please don't let go, Edward.

Edward: I don't mean to, Abby.

(Zachariah puffs over)

Zachariah: I'm coming, Edward!

Narrator Edward: But it was too late. I just couldn't do it. I stopped pulling. We all rolled back.

City of Wellsworth: Save me!

(Abby shrieks)

Narrator Edward: I realized my mistake and applied the brakes. But the jolt was too much, and it snapped the coupling. Abby and City of WEllsworth slid over the edge.

(Abby and City of Wellsworth scream as they fall)

Narraotr Edward: There was an earsplitting crash as they hit the bottom. Then everything was silent again.
