Fanfic: The Sodor Engines Specials: Sodor, Part Ten

Plot

Thomas awenkens several days later to find repairs are underway.

(Screen goes black)

Voice: Thomas? Thomas, can you hear me?

(Thomas opens his eyes. Percy is facing him.)

Percy: Hey, everybody! He's awake!

Thomas: Percy? (looks around) Hey, where am I?

Percy: You're at the works. Workers had to dig you out of that scrap pile. You've been unconscious for the past three days.

Thomas: What about the diesels?

Percy: After Diesel 10 fell apart, they all started panicing and surrendered.

Thomas: And Diesel 10?

Percy: What's left of him is sitting at the bottom of the scrap pile. No one will be able to sort it out from the other junk.

Thomas: What about the others?

Percy: They're fine. Everyone has already been repaired.

Narrator: Soon Thomas was out of the workshop and working as usual. He could still see signs of Diesel 10's destruction. The shed was under repairs. And most of the coal bunkers had been closed down. But there was another remnant of the crisis. Everyone looked up to Thomas. The engines greeted him loudly whenever they saw him.

(Gordon, passing Thomas, whistles loudly)

Narrator: People waved and cheered, just for him.

(Children stand on a bridge and wave to Thomas)

Narrator: It made Thomas feel special. A few days later, there was a grand ceremony for the reopening of the sheds. All of the engines were given new coats of paint (much to James' delight), and everyone was waiting as Sir Topham Hatt arrived.

Sir Topham Hatt: We are here today to celebrate a very important event. In my absence, an evil diesel attepmted to take over Sodor. As part of his plan, he destroyed Knapford station. But he is not ruling today! This is because of my engines. They all stood together, and even in the face of adversity did not give up. There are many. Emily, Gordon, Oliver, Donald, Douglas and Edward, all battled the diesels.

(The mentioned engines smile)

Sir Topham Hatt: James, Henry, and Duck helped to uncover the threat.

(They also smile. James looks very proud of himself)'

Sir Topham Hatt And Rosie, Percy, and Toby, helped protect Lady, the key to Sodor's safety.

(They too smile.)

Sir Topham Hatt: But the most important engine of all was a little tank engine. His name is Thomas. Without Thomas, all of the other engines' work would have been in vain. He single-handedly destroyed Diesel 10. He is, without a doubt, the bravest engine on Sodor, and a really useful engine.

Narrator: Everyone cheered. Thomas was so proud he thought his boiler would burst. The ceremony finished, and Thomas puffed away to tie up a loose end. Everyone smiled at him and several people chanted his name. But something felt wrong. He had a feeling of sadness that he couldn't shake off.

(Cut to the ravine, which Thomas is looking into. Let it Be by the Beatles is playing in the background. Lady rolls up)

Lady: Hello, Thomas.

Thomas: (startled) How did you get here?

Lady: I figured you would be here.

Thomas: (sighs) Sodor is safe, but I still don't know if it was worth the cost of Stephen's life.

Lady: Thomas, think about it this way: Stephen sacrificed his own life to save you. He wouldn't want you to be mourning him. He'd want you to be enjoying what he's helped presevre. That's his true legacy.

Thomas: You're right.

Lady: Now go. Your admirers await.

Narrator: And so Thomas steamed back down to the yard. Everyone was watching as he steamed onto the turntable.

Thomas: I just want everyone to know that I couldn't have done this alone. I had help from so many engines. Every one of you here has played your part in some way. Without you, I'd be nothing. Thank you.

(Everyone cheers. The camera zooms out until the entire island of Sodor is visible.)

(End credits roll)
