Fanfic: The Sodor Engines Specials: Sodor, Part Five
Plot
While heading down the line to warn the other engines about the toxic coal, a faulty switch sends Thomas and Duck down an old line. When they investigate further, they find Lady! The two tank engines then promise to help her run again.
Script
Narrator: Thomas and Duck raced as fast as they could down the line to warn the other engines about the poisoned coal. They were making good time, and dawn was approaching as the two engines rolled down the main line. The two engines were several meters apart, with Duck in front. Suddenly, Duck disappeared.
Thomas: Duck? Where'd you go? Duck?
Narrator: Thomas rolled forward slowly. As he approached the area where Duck had disappeared, Thomas noticed that there was a set of rusty old points he had never noticed before. The track that led up to the points went straight into a wall of foliage, and Thomas wasn't sure if he wanted to go through it. Building up courage, Thomas, moving very slowly, rolled through the plants. A few wheel turns later, he bumped straight into Duck's bunker.
Duck: Thomas?
Thomas: Yeah, it's me. Are you all right?
Duck: I'm fine.
Thomas: There was an old switch that branched off of the main line.
Duck: It must have broken or been changed accidentally.
Thomas: Where are we?
Narrator: The two looked around. The line ran through the dense forest, and curved sharply so that you couldn't tell where it went.
Thomas: Let's see where this line ends.
Duck: Are you kidding? We've lost enough time already! Let's just go.
Thomas: It can't hurt to look.
Duck: (sighs) All right.
Narrator: The two puffed down the line. It wasn't very long before they left the trees and arrived at a sort of rocky wasteland. The track ended at the base of a small cliff.
Duck: See? There's nothing here.
Thomas: Wait. (Examines the cliff) That's odd.
Duck: What?
Thomas: The track just ends at the cliff. No buffers or anything. It's almost as if-
Duck: -the track doesn't end at the cliff, but instead goes through it! But how would we go through the cliff?
Thomas: What if we just slam into it?
Duck: That's stupidest idea-
(There's a loud thud as Thomas slams into the cliff)
Narrator: The cliff began to rumble. The rock started to shift and shake. Two large plates of it shifted to the side, revealing a doorway. And there, half buried in rock, was an engine. Not just any engine. It was perhaps the finest locomotive either of them had ever seen. A small tank engine with an open cab, it was painted a purplish-red, with elegant gold lining. And it was smiling. Just then, Thomas saw a name painted on her tanks. It was a named that they both knew well.
Thomas: Could it be?
Lady: Yes. I'm Lady. This is Thomas and Duck, I presume?
Duck: How did you know our names?
Lady: I know a lot of things, Duck. I'm just glad you found me.
Thomas: How did you get here?
Lady: As you know, I control all gold dust. Many decades ago, my maker sheeted me up and put me in here. Somehow, he knew that I would be needed and tried to make sure that I was safe.
Thomas: You can help us get rid of Diesel 10!
Lady: Yes, I can help. But the one who will get rid of him will not be me. My maker also told me that an engine would come to me, in need of help. I was to help him save Sodor. I know that if that engine fails, Sodor is doomed. He is the only one that can rid our island of the evil that has entered it. That engine is you, Thomas.
Thomas: Wait. You're telling me that some old guy told you that I could get rid of some homicidal diesel with a giant claw?
Lady: Strange as it may sound, yes. And I'm here to help. But I can't help you until I've had some fresh coal and water. I'm so stiff that I don't think I can budge an inch. Could you get me some coal?
Narrator: Thomas and Duck looked at each other.
Duck: Well, we can't get you any coal here. It's been poisoned by Diesel 10.
Lady: What?
Thomas: But I'm sure there's a coal bunker somewhere on the other railway. We'll get you out.
Lady: Promise?
Thomas and Duck: We promise that we will help you run again, so that you may help us save Sodor.
Narrator: Lady smiled again.
Lady: I'm glad you're here.
Narrator: And Thomas and Duck couldn't help but smile too.
