{pitch black}

Narrator: I believe that most folks - like yourselves - understand that on a train journey, great adventure may never be very far away and that long after the sound of a train whistle has vanished, it's romance will be safe in every human heart - whatever age, whatever the time. Most folks are happy to know this - sadly, a few are not - which is a pity because that’s all it takes to cause a lot of trouble to some of the most precious things in life. This is a story about trains... in their very first musical!

{Thomas puffs out of a tunnel as the opening chord to A Hard Day's Night plays.}

The Beatles: {Lennon and McCartney}
It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log {Thomas is puffing behind bushes, the sky is getting dark}
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do {Thomas is puffing down the rails}
Will make me feel alright

{Cut to Percy in the shunting yard}

You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things {Percy is pushing trucks into a siding}
And it's worth it just to hear you say you're going to give me everything {Percy shunts coaches for an express}
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone {Percy sets off for Tidmouth Sheds}

{Cut to Thomas again}

When I'm home everything seems to be right

{Cut to Percy again}

When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight

{Cut to Molly pulling her last passenger train of the day}

It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog {Molly pulls into Knapford}
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do {Molly is uncoupled and sets off}

{Instrumental break; Molly puffs through the Sodor countryside, passing Emily by a water tower}

So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone {Emily puffs away after Molly}

{Cut to Molly}

{Cut to Emily, following Molly}

{Cut back to Percy, he backs down to Tidmouth Sheds, with Gordon, Henry, Edward, Duck and Oliver already there}

Will make me feel alright {Emily backs down next to Henry, a space between her and Percy.}

{As the song ends, Thomas puffs onto the turntable, spins around, and backs in his favorite spot, between Emily and Percy.}

Thomas: Hello, everybody. How was the day's work?

Edward: It was hard, but great, seeing as I do well being a back engine.

Duck: James is bound to be here any time soon, so you'd make room for him, Molly.

Molly: No, I'm used to sleeping with friends.

Percy: Well, okay.

Gordon: Where's Donald and Douglas?

{At that moment, Donald and Douglas appear in front of the turntable. Donald goes on the table, spins and backs down next to Oliver. Douglas has his turn, and backs next to Donald.}

Donald: Sorry we're late. We had some truck trouble again.

Douglas: But we showed them what Scots can do and are made of!

Henry: {rolls eyes} I hate when someone says what we're made of. You're clearly all made of metal.

{James puffs in, only to find Molly taking his spot.}

James: Molly, what are you doing in my spot?! It was built for me!

Molly: You should've got here earlier before me!

James: At least I didn't crash and have a tank engine rescue me!

Molly: And at least I'm not annoying like you are!

James: I'm not annoying!

Molly: Yes, you are!

James: No I'm not!

Edward: Stop arguing, the both of you! James, just let Molly sleep in your spot for the night.

James: {growls} Fine... {James angrily closes his eyes.}

Emily: What's his problem?

Thomas: He's always short-tempered, {to Molly} and I never thought you were naughty, Molly, making James angry.

Molly: It's a knack I get a lot..

Edward: We'd better get rest now for the day's work tomorrow.

{Cut to later that night. The engines are fast asleep.}

Narrator: The engines were all asleep, except James. He was secretly pretending to be asleep, to avoid listening to the other engines. He slept in a siding that night, for he was upset. Before arriving on Sodor, James had a dark past on his old railway, the Wales and Highland Valley Railway.

The world is treating me bad... Misery.

{Cut to a series of flashbacks, James painted in black}

James: Why is it girls had to always pick on me?! {realizes and is angry} If my sister stuck up for me, maybe Molly would like me!!

Narrator: But James was too tired to be angry, and fell back to sleep.
