Prologue: In the Beginning

We are introduced to Thomas/Stuart, Edward/Falcon, Henry, Gordon, James, Percy and Sir Topham Hatt, as well as six new engines to the North Western Railway.

{We see a full map of the Island of Sodor.}

Narrator: Once upon a time, in 1948, there was an island called Sodor. It is sometimes known as the North Western Railway, or the North Western Region of British Railways.

{Cut to Knapford Station. A stout man in a black coat, a yellow vest, a black tie, gray trousers, and a black top hat.}

Narrator: And running this railway was a little fat man who-

Sir Topham Hatt: Hey you! I will have you know I am not fat! I am just big boned.

Narrator: Sorry. Ahem! His name was Sir Topham Hatt. And he had a fantastic dream.

Sir Topham Hatt: Ah, yes! To get as far away from my mother as possible. Man I hate that woman.

Narrator: Hey!!! Who said you could narrate this prologue?

Sir Topham Hatt: Um, me.

Narrator: Too bad! My story! Anyway, his dream was to run the region.

Sir Topham Hatt: Actually it’s just to impress my friends.

Narrator: SILENCE!!!! Anyway, he started his dream by buying the North Western Railway. And he also had six engines from his father.

Sir Topham Hatt: Wait a minute! I'm rich? Oh, yeah! I see my engines coming.

{Six engines puff to the station platforms. One is a blue 0-6-0 side tank engine with the number one on his bunker, another is a blue 4-4-0 tender engine with the number two on his cab, a third is a green 4-6-0 with the number three on his cab, a fourth is a blue 4-6-2 with the number four on his cab, a fifth, red 2-6-0 tender engine with the number five on his cab, and the last is a green 0-4-0 saddle tank engine with the number six on his cab.}

Stuart: Hello. I'm Stuart.

Falcon: I'm Falcon.

Henry: I'm Henry.

Gordon: I'm Gordon.

James: I'm James.

Percy: And Percy.

Sir Topham Hatt: Stuart, Falcon, I'm going to give you new names. Stuart, you will be Thomas. Falcon, you'll be Edward.

Thomas: That's a better name than Stuart.

Edward: Same reason for Falcon. Being named after a bird was silly.

Sir Topham Hatt: I've also brought six new engines from the British Railways and overhauled them. I want you six to meet them at the new sheds of Tidmouth.

Thomas, Edward, Henry, Gordon, James and Percy: Yes, sir!

{Thomas, Edward, Henry, Gordon, James and Percy see a brown LNER J70 with blue sideplates, a 57xx, two CR 812's, a 14xx, and a Stirling Single.}

Thomas: Hello! You must be the new engines. I'm Thomas. Welcome to Sodor!

Toby: Hello, Thomas. I'm Toby.

Duck: Montague, but I'm usually called Duck.

Donald: I'm Donald...

Douglas: ...and I'm Douglas!

Donald and Douglas: We're Scottish twins!

Oliver: I'm Oliver.

Emily: And I'm Emily!

Percy: I'm Percy.

James: James' the name.

Edward: I'm Edward.

Henry: I'm Henry.

Gordon: And I'm Gordon.

Narrator: Well now that we are all introduced- {whistle blows} Oh! I have to go now! That's my lunch break! Fatty, you're in charge now, m'kay?

{Sir Topham Hatt falls over, to the engines' shock.}

Sir Topham Hatt: {ticked off} MY NAME IS SIR TOPHAM HAT YOU IDIOTIC BOOB! {calmer} Anyways, Thomas, you're running the Ffarqhuar branchline with Percy, Toby, and Emily. And you three have your own coaches. Thomas, meet Annie and Clarabel; Toby, you have Henrietta and Victoria; and Emily shall have Martha and Jennifer.

Thomas, Toby and Emily: Thank you, sir.

{Thomas, Toby and Emily buffer up to their respective coaches.}

Percy: What do I do?

Sir Topham Hatt: You're running goods trains... and the mail.

Percy: {excited} OH, THANK YOU SIR!!!

Sir Topham Hatt: Edward, you're running Wellsworth branch. Duck and Oliver will go on the Little Western.

Edward: Right, sir.

Duck: Okay.

Oliver: We understand perfectly.

Sir Topham Hatt: Gordon, James and Henry, you three run the mainline. Gordon will take the express known as the Wild Nor'Wester.

Gordon: Thank you, sir!

Donald: What do me and Douggie do, sirr?

Sir Topham Hatt: You two will go on Duck's branch line, but you can sometimes help on Edward's line or the main line.

Douglas: Okay then.

{Show a montage of the engines working on their respective lines.}

Sir Topham Hatt: So, wait, that's it? That's the whole episode? Are we finished? Ah, well. Good-bye folks! And watch out for the series very soon!
