FanFic:The Sodor Engines Off-rail Vehicles

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

While not as numerous as trains, the Island of Sodor has many non-rail vehicles, as well as permanent fixtures such as cranes.

Vehicles

Bertie

Bertie is a friendly bus who runs mainly on the roads near the Ffarquhar branch line. When he and Thomas first met, Bertie boasted about how superior trains were, so Thomas challenged him to a race. It was a close one, but Bertie won. Annoyed, Thomas encouraged Bertie's passengers to complain about the uncomfortable ride. However, when a supervising officer came to scold Bertie for his speeding, Thomas confessed that they had been racing. The two became friends, and remains so to this day. Bertie often helps out the engines, and they sometimes work in conjunction.

Kevin

Kevin is an inexperienced crane truck who works with Victor in the steam works. He drives Victor mad by calling him "Boss" and constantly making messes. The other engines like him, but they sometimes feel sorry for him for his clumsiness.

Bulgy

Bulgy is a cantankerous double-decker bus. When he first met Bertie, he told Bertie how buses would someday take over the railways. Bertie argued with him, which made Bulgy even crosser. Bulgy tried to prove his point by stealing Thomas's passengers and taking them on a "shortcut", but got a flat tire on the bumpy, old road. While he was being loaded, the jack failed, and he slithered down an embankment into a farm. The passengers (having previously gotten out) walked to a crossing, where Thomas collected them. Bulgy remains there today, and is used as a chicken house.

George

George is a conceited steamroller. He works with the Sodor road crew, and once had to work with the engines in preparation for the Chinese new year. The other engines were annoyed by him, and wanted to pay him back. Toby decided to take the paper dragon through the site late at night. The ploy worked, and George was so scared that he refused to leave the utility shed until morning. The engines teased him about this, and he doesn't show off anymore.

Madge

Madge is a snub-nosed lorry owned by the Skarloey Railway. She was not trusted by the engines because she is a lorry, but she proved that she was useful by rescue Duncan when he was stuck on a hill. Madge is a helpful, friendly lorry, and acts as a motherly figure to the engines, but often joins in on their misadventures.

Harold

Harold is a helicopter. He's a bit of a show-off, but means well. When he first arrived, he was scolded by Edward for his overconfidence and annoying manner. Harold ignored this, but had to be rescued by Edward after he crashed. The two are now good friends, and Harold often helps out the railway.

Other

Cranky

Cranky is a cranky crane. He works at the docks. The engines don't particularly like him, but they get along with him fairly well. He complained about having to work with them at first, but when he fell over and the engines hoisted him back upright, he gets along with them better.
