FanFic:The Sodor Engines Episodes: Engineitis

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

Engineitis is the 80th episode of The Sodor Engines.

Plot

Bash and Dash trick James into thinking that he has a disease that will make him explode.

Script

Narrator: One crisp fall day, James was shunting trucks in the yard. He was doing a good job, and he felt proud of his work. Just then, Edward entered the yard.

Edward: Hello James, I’m going to help you get a train ready for Murdoch.

Narrator: James swiftly arranged the trucks, but Edward was very slow in his actions.

James: Will you hurry up already?

Edward: Sorry James, it’s just that I’m not (coughs) feeling too good today.

James: Yeah, right. You’re just lazy.

Edward: No, really. My smokebox feels stuffed up, my funnel doesn’t seem to be working right, and I sometimes wheesh black smoke.

Narrator: As if to prove his point, a wave of black smoke escaped from his undercarriage.

James: Ugh! I never liked my paint black!

Narrator: Later, James was puffing to the logging extension to collect some trucks.

Bash: You’re late.

Dash: You must be a slowpoke.

James: It’s not me, it’s Edward. He says he feels ill.

Bash: Did his smokebox feel stuffed up?

James: He did say that . . . . . .

Dash: Did his funnel malfunction?

James: I guess . . . .

Bash and Dash: Most importantly, did he wheesh black smoke?

James: Definitely.

Dash: Oh no! He has engineitis!

James: Engilsplitus? What’s that?

Bash: It’s a type of diseasel that engines get. Edward is showing its symptoms. Poor Edward . . .

James: What do you mean?

Dash: Eventually, engineitis makes you explode!

Bash: There’s no cure.

James: Oh no!

(Ferdinand rolls up)

Ferdinand: Run along, you two! You've got to get those lumber flatbeds before nightfall! (to James) Hello, James.

(Ferdinand wheeshes black smoke)

James: (thinking) What if it's contagious? (speaking) Hi Ferdinand. I gotta go. See you later!

Narrator: And James hurried away. He didn't see any other engines wheeshing black smoke, and thought that Bash and Dash might have been joking. But as he was puffing up Gordon’s hill. He started feeling tired and stuffed up! He ignored it and kept going. As he raced down the other side, the flow of steam from his funnel dwindled.

James: No! It can’t happen to me!

Narrator: As he pulled into Tidmouth, he wheeshed black steam.

James: Ahh! I’m going to explode!

Narrator: Just then, James saw Edward. He was puffing very slowly as he passed by.

James: Poor engine. I won’t tell him about engineitis. He’ll feel bad for his last few days on Earth.

Narrator: Edward entered the sheds and was obscured by darkness. Then there was a big BOOM! and coal and ashes came flying out. James was horrified.

James: Oh no! That’s what will happen to me! No!

Narrator: James ran away to Crovan’s gate. His smokebox felt stuffier and stuffier, and he was starting to panic.

(James pulls into the Sodor Steamworks)

James: They’ll have something for me here! They have to!

Narrator: As James entered the yard, his smokebox felt very, very stuffed up. He felt a wave of steam trying to escape, with no avail. He knew he was about to explode. The steam pressed harder, and harder, and harder, until . . . .
The steam escaped loudly, covering James with soot and ashes!

James: What happened?

(Henry puffs up)

Henry: Hello James. Have you had your sneeze?

James: What do you mean?

Henry: Every so often, an engine’s smoke box gets stuffed up. It just builds and builds until the steam can’t take it any longer and blows it all out. It makes you sneeze. We’ve had very bad coal, which gives off more soot than usual. All the engines have been having trouble. Edward felt it first.

James: So he didn’t explode?

Henry: Of course not! That sounds like something Bash and Dash would come up with. Good thing no one listens to them! Ha ha ha!

Narrator: And Henry puffed away. Edward pulled up, looking clean.

Edward: James, you sneezed? Well go in the Steamworks! Their washdowns are fantastic!

Narrator: James did get a washdown. And as he was washed, he thought about Bash and Dash, and decided to never believe in “engineitis” again ever.
