Gordon is a big blue express engine.

History

Gordon was built for the LNER and ran expresses on it for a long time, with his brother Flying Scotsman and his cousins Mallard and Herring Gull. Like Henry, he worked on the BR for a period of time.

He was bought by the North Western in 1968 and helped build it. On opening day, he popped a valve, and Thomas had to help him pull the first express.

In 1976, Gordon, with Donald, Douglas, Emily, and Oliver, battled several diesels on the main line. Then he found his way to the scrapyard where Thomas, Percy, Toby, and Rosie were resting while Lady heated up.

Gordon currently pulls passenger trains on the main line. His favorite job is the express (called "The Wild Nor' Wester") He sometimes takes freight trains, too, but only rarely, as he considers them "undignified, dirty, and slow- ugh!". The taunting that he receives from James and Henry does not improve his opinion on the subject.

In 1979, Gordon was pulling the Wild Nor' Wester up a steep slope near Maron when he jammed a cylinder. He heroically pressed on and made it to the top of the hill, where Boco was able to take the train. In honor of his efforts, the hill was named Gordon's hill. Since then, the hill has been the location of many a stopped express when the coaches were too heavy.

Personality

Gordon is very dignified and stuck-up. He refuses to shunt, saying it's "a tank engine's job", and won't even pull trucks. However, Gordon has a good heart and never hesitates to help a friend in need.

Basis

Gordon is based on a LNER A1 express engine, making him kin to Flying Scotsman and Mallard, two of the most famous engines in the world.
