FanFic:The Sodor Engines Episodes: Thomas and Rosie

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

Thomas and Rosie is the 22nd episode of The Sodor Engines.

Plot

Rosie, an engine from Thomas's old harbor, arrives. She is taunted by the other engines for her meager size and strength, provoking her to prove them wrong.

Script

Narrator: It was late fall on the island of Sodor. The days were get cooler and shorter, and the traffic on the North Western Railway had decreased. One morning, Sir Topham Hatt arrived at Tidmouth Sheds with an importatn announcement to make.

(Sir Topham Hatt's car rolls up. Sir Topham Hatt exits, and the car rises noticeably)

Sir Topham Hatt: There have been some complaints lately about the fact that there is no shunting engine in the yards, given that Duck now has his own branchline. (Glares at Henry, James, and Gordon, who look at their buffers) As such, I've ordered a new shunting engine for Tidmouth yards.

Edward: How soon until he or she arrives?

Sir Topham Hatt: Some time today. (He leaves)

Narrator: Later, Thomas and Toby were at Tidmouth collecting their trains.

Toby: What do you think the new engine will be like?

Narrator: Thomas was about to reply when he heard a loud whistle echo through the yards.

Thomas: If I had to guess . . .

Narrator: Just then, a tank engine steamed into view. She was painted in a lavender livery with white tanks and orange wheels, and had three domes and slanting side tanks.

Toby: Hello, I'm Toby.

Thomas: I'm Thomas.

Rosie: I'm Rosie. I'm here to shunt at Tidmouth.

Narrator: Rosie soon set to work. She proved very capable in the yards, and quickly had the trucks in order.

Emily: That Rosie's proving useful. She had my frieght train in ten minutes early!

Gordon: Pity she'll never be a real engine.

(Rosie puffs in)

Rosie: What did you say?

Gordon: It's just, well, you're too weak to pull real trains.

Rosie: What? Come on. Couldn't I pull a long train?

Thomas: Well, um, actually, Gordon's right.

Rosie: Impossible! I'll prove it! You wait!

Narrator: Later that day, a heavy load of metal was to be shippped to the smelters.

Rosie: I'll show them. This'll be easy!

Narrator: And she buffered up to the trucks and started out of the yards. It was really very hard work, and Rosie could barely handle it.

Rosie: I can do it! Just a little farther!

Narrator: She was steaming towards the viaduct when Toby trundled by with Henrietta.

Toby: Slow down! The viaduct ahead is under repairs!

Narrator: But Rosie didn't hear Toby and kept speeding down the line. Ahead lay the viaduct. The workmen saw her coming and fled, but Rosie couldn't see anything until it was too late. The trucks slammed into the scaffolding and slid off the broken bridge into the valley below. Rosie barely managed to stop herself.

Rosie: Bust my funnel!

Workman: Um, it's bust my buffers.

Rosie: Aren't you supposed to be getting me out?

(The workman quickly starts to help pull her clear)

Narrator: Sir Topham Hatt soon arrived.

Sir Topham Hatt: I'm disapointed in you, Rosie. I thought an engine like you would know better.

Rosie: I'm sorry, Sir.

Sir Topham Hatt: I'm not sure what to do with you, Rosie. Maybe I'll have to send you back.

Rosie: (sighs) Yes, sir.

Narrator: The next day Rosie was sadly shunting in the yards. She liked Sodor, and she didn't want to have to leave it. Just then, Thomas steamed by with Annie and CLarabel in tow. He sped out of the yards, but then there was a loud noise. Rosie puffed over to see that Thomas had a broken cylinder.

Thomas: I've got to get Sir Topham Hatt to the mainland in time for an important meeting! It's not like he can take a car.

Rosie: I'll take the train.

Thomas: You'll have to be fast. We're already late.

Narrator: Rosie was soon coupled up to Annie and Clarabel. She pulled out of the yards and was soon racing down the main line.

(Rosie steams down the main line for several seconds. Cut to Barrow-in-Furness)

Sir Topham Hatt: Well done Rosie! I think I will keep you. You've proved to be very useful today.

Narrator: Thomas was soon repaired. He was in the yards when Rosie steaed in.

Thomas: Sorry I said you weren't a real engine, Rosie. I guess I know better now.

Narrator: Rosie now works in the shunting yards. Although she can't always pull very heavy trains, she knows that she's really useful.
