I do not want ANY of you to bully me, taunt me, say I'm dumb or say Thomas is a baby show. Overall, have a good time!
S.C.Ruffeyfan, welcome to Train Spotting World
If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.
There are very few rules here. The best summary is:
- Respect other people's Copyright
- Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
- Do no harm
This is not an encyclopaedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.
It's always worth having a look at Station announcements every so often, too.
One of the first things you might want to do is to place talktome at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.
And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!
"Snap", the little link preview window, has options in it that you can tailor to meet your needs. If you like it, stay with the defaults. If not then you can turn it off easily
Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.
There is also a live chat room - see the left hand menu
Is Fan Fiction your thing? If it is, check out our Fan Fiction area. Please make sure all Fan Fiction is prefixed with "FanFic:" with no intervening space. An example is FanFic:Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway.
Any questions, please ask any user on their talk page.
And please tell all your friends about us

Hello S.C.Ruffeyfan,
I've noticed that you have been doing loads of editing on the Thomas pages. What I would like to do here is to start up projects like those at Wikipedia. Thomas and FanFic would be the first. Would you be interested in helping me?

- In "preferences" you need to tick the raw signatures box. Then put
- <b><font color="#00FF00">S.C.Ruffey</font><font color="#FC4A4A">fan</font></b>
- into the box. It will look like this:

SiF
Hi, S.C.Ruffeyfan!
Earlier this month you told me that ever since I got banned from SiF, alot of other people were getting banned as well. Is that true? If so...why? What's happening to SiF? And also, do you have any idea as to why I was banned? Thanks, and I hope to hear from you soon! --Dalek X 01:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, on the website TV.com, on the TUGS general discussion, they were talking about it sharing with TUGS. The Star Dock Forum was closed down. They discussed about SiF saying that when they tried to register, they got banned after they had been on for about two days. One user got banned cause he was african-american, and they made fun of him. They started to send this Thomas parody series made by themself called 'The Yard' which is just adultish Thomas and there was an episode that made fun of him cause he was african-american. So they probably banned you for liking Doctor Who and other non-Thomas stuff, cause they stay true to Thomas. Hope this helps. --S.C.Ruffeyfan 18:51, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
- Whoa! About that Native American being banned, that is SO racist! I'm aware of what "The Yard" is. I used to watch it, but I found it to bee very offensive to a bunch of people, so I stopped. And, also, if they banend me for the sole reason of liking Doctor Who and having the word Dalek in my username, then that's just rude! Maybe it's better that I'm not on SiF anymore. Thanks for the info. --Dalek X 18:16, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Adoption...
Hello Alex,
Would you like me to adopt you? I will be able to help you with all aspects of TSW, with things like Userboxes, etc.
What do you think?

Thomas Workforce and Adoption...
Hello Alex,
I have now adopted you: if you need help with anything, just ask me! No need to bother anyone else, it's what i'm here for!
Also, with Workforce:Thomas, there is an awful lot of stuff that needs doing. First things first: merge the Thomas and Friends Portal into the project page... this page is going to become something else, and use the WP Thomas Project (all copied below the new bit) editing so it's suitable for here. Think you can do it? (I'm sure I can find a barnstar from somewhere...)
Bluegoblin7 00:27, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Probably. --S.C.Ruffeyfan 17:59, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, I need help with improving the userbox page. Can you help me? --S.C.Ruffeyfan 20:06, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

It's just a case of "a little too early" to be an admin yet. I know it's a disappointment, but what I really want to do is to encourage you to get involved with loads of stuff, show you are good at it, and then re-apply. There's a lot of work to be done to get this place into shape. It isn't even a year old yet, and it needs help!

Welcome to the 5th issue of The Transport Journal.
We really want to try and get more users on both Trains and Planes in a subtle way. I must emphasize the "subtle" as we don't want to end up on any spam blacklist. The best way seems to be to mention it on forums and other wikis in context in a subtle manner. Tim is considering writing a guideline for this.
There seems to be a consensus over at Meta to put Trains on the interwiki map so we can start linking things on TSW to relevant areas of Wikipedia. Please remmeber that the interwiki map is a way of using TSW as a reference for an article and not a means of promotion.
I hope we can all continue our great work to improve TSW and PSW. PSW has alot of work to be done but we now have an active user.
Thanks,

Hello happy happy readers of the Journal!
Firstly, can I aplogise for not writing last issue! I had lots of things to do off wiki, and i am grateful to Tbo for stepping in at the last minute (Saturday!!!) and ably creating and delivering Issue 5!
As we leave January behind we can safely say that it has been a great start to the year for all the SpottingWorld projects. At Trains we have an assessment scheme, RfA, a fully functional Station Cafe, and lots more! At planes, not much progress has been made, but we are very pleased to announce that we finally have 1 active member, who is slowly hacking through the tedious job of bringing planes up to date. I won't mention his name here, but this is just a personal thanks!
So, that's it from me, but remember: YOUR WIKI'S NEED YOU!

- Latest news/requests/announcements
- It has been suggested that newsletters for different "Big Four" rail companies, British Railways Regions and the later BR sectors - Network SouthEast, InterCity, Railfreight, Regional Railways etc. Would you like to see these as either regular newsletters? Or perhaps the odd supplement with the Transport Journal? Or perhaps a new section withing the current Journal format? Well, you can comment!
- A very important request now: This applies mainly to FanFic articles, but can any user creating new articles please ensure that the namespace is correct. For Fan Fiction, the namespace is FanFic, not Fanfic as many users have been naming articles. It gets very frustrating for the admins who have to move the pages and then delete their now orphaned original pages!
- In addition, imporvement is needed on the Fan-fic articles, and even possible new Fan-fic articles. We encourage anyone with a Fan-fic idea, to go for it, as long as it stays within the Fan-fic section of TSW.

Greetings to the great and humble readers of "The Journal'.
February is now upon us, and this is great month! Heritage Railways and Tramways will start opening their doors to paying customers, and rail and air travel often "take off" for the late skiing holidays. And of course, how can we forget? TrainSpottingWorld and PlaneSpottingWorld will also be celebrating their first birthdays! We plan to have several special features in the next 2 issues, as we celebrate the birthdays. There will also be a competition, and other celebratory things!...
Now, I was thinking to myself last week about how to improve all the wikis and the TJ. The first thing that I thought of was that my editorials each issue of the TJ are based more around Trains, seeing as that's where my interests lie. So, from now on, i'll try to be less biased.
Secondly, I thought about articles etc. I've been doing a lot of Tram Stuff at Trains recently, and so I am hoping that this can get us on things such as the Interwiki Map. This should help us a lot!
Finally, I had a think about the Transport Journal. As you know, we added a new section for the community in Issue 3, but now I want feedback on anything about the TJ. This has been something that we have been lacking so far! The only way we can improve it is if you guys tell us what you want to see. I have many ideas, but I don't want to implement them because it may not be what people want.
Just a note for next issue: I will not be here from the 7th onwards, as I am skiing, so please direct any enquiries about the TJ to Assisstant Editor Tbo 157 (Tbo at Trains).
That's it from me this week,
Bluegoblin7

14 February 2008:Celebrating 1 year since the launch of TrainSpottingWorld
At last, TSW is on the interwiki map. We can now start linking some of our pages to relevant pages on any other project on the interwiki map. TSW have alot of content which is banned on other project such as wikipedia including videos, spotting reports etc so get linking. The other SW wikis will be added when it has as many users, uniquee content and articles as TSW so lets continue to promote sw projects in a subtle way.
PSW is now well on its way to reaching TSW standards with more active users and the start of the development of the first workforce. Hopefully we will be able to launch the other SW wikis soon. Please remember to keep promoting in a subtle manner. Thanks to all your work so far in doing so.
As usual, please submit any content or comments you may have.
Thanks,

All users are welcome to submit content for this newsletter, regardless of whether they are an editing volunteer, at Project:The Transport Journal/Submit.
Message from first issue
Hi and thanks for subscribing to The Transport Journal. The Transport Journal was set up to inform users of SpottingWorld projects of the latest goings on in our projects including new processes, current big discussions, any events and some news as well as the goings on in the real transport world. We hope that this weekly newsletter can get users more involved with the community by informing users of what is going on. This will become more useful as the community grows larger.
Thanks,

PSW Announcements

- Apologies to PSW readers for a delayed update to Issue 7 as I was quite busy.
- Work has begun on PSW's first workforce - Swplane:Workforce:Aviation which will be the umbrella workforce for all the daughter projects which will cover the narrower scopes.
- Good news for PSW. We now have at least 3 active editors working hard, updating articles and creating new ones.
- Please help out with the PSW main page. I have added some things to make it look a bit more complete btu still needs work and also needs to be maintained.
- Please get discussing at swplane:The Terminal.

TSW Announcements

- Latest news/requests/announcements
- Slambo is going through the web archives at the United States National Transportation Safety Board adding content to the various year and anniversary pages. The accident reports freely available in the public domain include detailed information on the minor through the more spectacular accidents that have occurred in the last 40 years, and could provide the basis for complete articles on each incident.
- Also, Slambo rolled out updates to a few talk page templates ( and ) and created a new template () that enable Train Spotting World editors to classify articles by their overall quality and importance to various workforces. The templates also help the workforces sort articles with open tasks, such as those that need improved referencing, images or maps.
- Ongoing requests/announcements
- TSW is now on the Interwiki Map. Use the same prefix we have here, swtrain: to link to this site from any site on the IW map.
Please note that it may take a while for the databases to be updated on the various wikis and so the IW map may not immediately work on all wikis.
- Please vote for the featured article and image on the main page at swtrain:Main Page/Featured Content/Suggestions.
- There is currently a backlog on creating new US Rail related articles. Please help out.
- We need users to start working on new portals and workforces as well as maintaining the old ones.
- Please comment at swtrain:Trains:The Transport Journal/Spin-offs to discuss various plans for spin off newsletters
- Improvements are needed for Fanfic articles. Please get involved. Important: Please use the prefix "FanFic:" as opposed to "Fanfic" for the FanFic namespace.

Article rescuing
- Alot of article rescuing from Wikipedia has been taking place, importing articles from WP which may be deleted. Please continue to do this as it seems to be attracting new users from WP.
Coming soon
- Delivery and anti vandal bots.
- A new semi protect feature which would block newly registered users from editing the semi protected page.

- Hey, lads!
- First of all, I'd like to ask if anyone out there is going near any Railways, Tramways, Herige Railways, or anything else to do with trains, and they've brought a camera with. Well, if you are, could they possibly send the pics to swtrains:user:Bluegoblin7}Bluegoblin7? Or just upload them and notify him!
- Secondly, if anyone has any information about the history of the 2 new 0-6-0 Shunters at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway (Janus and Claire!)? Again, email him or upload them at Trains.
- Thanks,
- --Dalek X 01:25, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
DO YOU OWN A MODEL RAILWAY? WELL, WHY NOT CREATE A PAGE FOR IT AT TRAINS AND TELL EVERYONE ABOUT IT!!!

Sorry for the lateness, my week's been crazy! --DalekX 02:45, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
A Proposition...
Hey, S.C.Ruffeyfan,
I've got a question for you. Would you like to deliver the Transport Journal? I can teach you how to do it, if you want to.
Hope you're well --DalekX 22:24, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK, X. Does it involve email? Thanx, --S.C.Rf 18:18, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- Not in the sligthest. I'll even set it up for you. All you'll need to do is take the code below and put it on the talk page of everyone who signed up for the Journal. You can find them at Trains:The Transport Journal/About. Here's the code:
-
<div>
style="background-color: #FFFFFF; text-align: center;" |The Transport Journal
style="border: solid 1px grey;"|

</div>
- Then, all you need to do is add a delivery message either before the final |} or after the final </div>. Interested? If so, I'll have issue 9 ready for you in a couple o' days. Thanks. --DalekX 03:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Various...
Hi SC,
A few notes:
- I will help you with an image gallery in a few days. Please list all images you want here, like this: Image:Foo. I'll then collate them!
- The TJ 9 isn't out yet. Please hang on!
- Adminship... I would like to nominate you!
Thanks,

Hello
Yo sup man? You might know me from the looks of my name. I joined here at last I guess. User:Driveus
- Zip, glad ya joined, man. What's the haps?--S.C.Rf 17:17, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
- Not much. Just trying to get used to things here. The fact that they allow vandalism is beyond me. BTW, do they allow cursing here? User:Driveus
- Allow vandalism? Nooooo... Cursing? Nooo........... I will rv things like that! We allow more than WP (it would be considered vandalism there), but we have our limits!
- If you have more qs, ask me!.
- Oh and sign your posts with 4 tildes (~~~~), rather than your username!
- Thanks,
- BG7 09:08, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
- Got it, maybe I should rewrite my page. Driveus 10:34, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
The Journal & Other Stuff
Hey S.C.Ruffeyfan
Good job delivering the Journal for me, mate. But, next time, wait until I put the Journal up on the main Journal Page before delivering it. I just got 'round to putting up Issue 9 a day or two ago. Thanks
So, other than that, how's it goin'? --DalekX 22:17, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
P.S.: How did you get that awesome S.C.Ruffey poster on your user page? And how can I make my own?
- Mind if I jump in?
- The easiest way is to make your own on Paint, Photoshop etc, and then upload it (save it as a .png if you can, it's the best format!), and finally port it onto your user page the same way you do with images - see my page as an example.
- If you want I can do you both something similar to my Bluegoblin about thing, but you'll have to wait a while as I'm away skiing! (As the Wikibreak thing says... I really need to take note of that!)
- Thanks,
- BG7 12:56, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Image Copyrights...
Hello S.C.Ruffey,
Could I possibly ask you to add links of the images that you have used on your various uploaded Paint images, and also any copyright permissions you have (whatever is on the image's page). This is to stop us getting into legal problems, as the images may be copyrighted, and we may be in violation of it or a Fair-Use Rationale.
Thanks,
BG7 15:18, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe I'll just delete the images altogether. --S.C.Rf 14:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- No need to do that mate. If you have a look at what C45Te did, you'll be ok!
- If you want them to be deleted though, tell me where they are and i'll remove them - there still on the site even if they're not on your userpage!

Tidmouth Forums
Hey, S.C.Ruffeyfan
What's up? I was wondering, would you be interested in joining this one place called Tidmouth Forums. It's really cool and nice there. If you're interested, I'll send you a link to it. --DalekX 22:42, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, man! I'd like to! Also, do you want to join my production company 33 Productions? You could be voices for the characters in my stuff. C ya! --S.C.Rf 17:02, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Right, here's the link: Tidmouth Forums.
- Now, about 33 Productions, I'd like to. Unfortunately, I don't have a microphone, so I couldn't do any voices. If you like, I could do script editing (or something similar) for you, though. How's that sound? --DalekX 20:16, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
OK. When I'm 12 and I am out on YouTube, my stuff will begin! MUHAHAHA! --S.C.Rf 16:06, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Dang! I registered, but it said I need to be 13 and i'm 10! I hate website rules nowadays. >:-( Ah, well. Just 2/3 years to go. --S.C.Rf 18:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- Man, that stinks! Ah well. In about 3 years, you'll be able to sign on. So, what's your first redub/audio gonna be? --DalekX 20:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
IDK. I made something called Not So Hasty Puddings {Rossi Version}. When I'm on YT when I'm 11/12 I'll post it. --S.C.Rf 16:10, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Hey
Hey, S.C.Rf,
How's it goin'? --DalekX 01:54, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
Hey X,
it's official, 33 Productions has hit YouTube! The account name is SCRuffeyfan. Anyway, what have you been up to? It was my birthday three moths ago and I got TUGS annual 1989! Sweet! --S.C.Rf 19:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Well, let's see. To start with, I've been watching a lot of "House". Not much else, really. So, you joined Youtube, eh? That's cool. Say, when are you gonna start working on redubs and audios? --DalekX 17:46, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
