Bio
D2000 was built with an experimental turbine design, similar to that of the LMS Turbomotive. Although this design was successful, making him a very powerful locomotive, he was prone to illness and would often stop for no apparent reason. Because of this, the steamers he worked with would often laugh and tease him, fueling his rage. Things only got worse when he was not taken in by the railway collections and sent away for scrap. D2000 fled his death sentence, living as a vagabond, much like the legendary Thomas. He mistakenly believed that the steamers had taken up all of the space in the museums, leaving him for the scrap heap.
After trying to destroy the museums (and the steamers in them), he heard about the Smoky Valley railroad. After having fabricated an invitation to them with the help of his driver, he captured the railroad's steamers, preparing to scrap them. But he didn't take into account Johnny, who had been left behind. With the help of Thomas, Johnny tracked them to the scrapyard that was D2000's headquarters. The steamers were escaping when D2000 discovered their plot and trapped them. He pursued to the smelter's shed, where they were trapped by D2000's henchmen. But the evil diesel lost control and crashed into a support, causing the roof to crumble and collapse. The steamers escaped (although Johnny was badly damaged), but D2000 was trapped by the rubble and crushed. A fire spread, covering the rubble. It is unknown what happened to D2000's remains.
Personality
D2000 is a bitter and evil individual. His once kind ways were warped by cruel steamers, which he now hates. D2000's contempt is near endless, and it is hinted that his life is a burden upon him.
D2000 is very intelligent, and does not fit into the normal Diesel stereotype of stupidity. Sadly, his great intellect is wasted upon plans to destroy steamers.
Lust For Revenge
D200's lust for revenge, at a distance, seems cruel and unnecessary. However, some critics believe that he is wholly justified, as he had been humiliated and shunned by steam engines, who are generally favored in the eyes of humans. This need for revenge is reflected in his climatic monologue, based on one from Shakespeare:
Does a Diesel not have eyes? Does a Diesel not have wheels, a cab, dimensions, senses, affections, passions; hurt with the same cutter's torch, subject to the same ailments, repaired by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer as a Steamer is? If you prick our tanks, do we not leak? If you wreck us, do we not break down? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that. If a Diesel wrong a Steamer, what is his humility? Revenge. If a Steamer wrong a Diesel, what should his sufferance be by Steamer example? Why, revenge. The villainy you teach me, I will execute, and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.
Basis
