001. An Amazing Adventure
Johnny starts to long for another adventure and is excited when Mr. Capp tells him that he has a special for Johnny. But he's disappointed when it turns out that he and Marian must get Jay's express home when he has broken down. Along the way, however, encounters with a stray cow, a broken crossing gate, and a confused signalman make him change his mind!
002. Times are Changin'
An article in a popular magazine about steam engines leads to increased traffic on the Smoky Valley Railroad. Soon a new diesel called 1738 arrives to help out, but he hates steam engines. He acts boastful and rude to the others, and they soon hate him back. When he and Scout must take some trucks to the terminal, Scout forgets to warn him about the fact their brakes are prone to sticking. Halfway up a hill, 1738 gets stuck, and blows a fuse from his struggling. The others tease him while he's in this awkward position, and he vows revenge on Scout.
003. On the Loan Again
Soon after, 1738 accidently shunts an expensive coach through the buffers and into a gully, destroying it completely. When he is asked how it happened, 1738 claims that Scout was being careless and bumped it into the gully. Scout denies this, but as her special coal was found on the coach's siding and there were no other witnesses, Mr. Capp decides that she'll have to sent away. 1738 is distressed (he didn't want it to go that far), and faces a difficult moral problem. Eventually, he admits his crime. Mr. Capp is impressed with his honesty and decides tht although he'll have to stay in the shed for a week, he can be part of the railway and is given the name "Cedric".
004. The Great Race
Jay becomes annoyed when he is constantly passed by a rude lorry at the level crossing. Soon he's so fed up that he goes to the lorry's terminal and yells at him to stop. The lorry is offended, and challenges Jay to a race. The two meet at an area where road and rail run paralell, and the lorry wins easily. Jay asks Johnny for help, and Johnny helps him gain stamina and chuff faster than ever before. Jay challenges the lorry to a rematch, and the lorry wins by even more than last time. Jay is upset and gives up. But later, he meets the lorry, who has broken down. Jay takes his goods for him, and he is happy knowing that trains are still reliable.
005. Old Memories
While at the terminal, Johnny sees a diesel torment Marian about something called "Junler". His inquires are ignored by Marian, who tells him to "leave the past where it should stay- behind us". Johnny sets out to figure out the truth. Interviewing Mr. Capp, Scout and Jay, he catches something about Junler Scrapyard. That night, he steals some trucks, lies his way past the night watchman, and heads off to Junler. There he discovers the shocking truth from an old engine waiting to be scrapped.
006. #13
Having discovered the truth, Johnny contemplates whether or not he should tell the others. Marian gets wind of what he knows, and the two argue. Johnny, cross, tells Scout, Jay, and Cedric what Marian's secret is. Marian, fearing the others will hate her, decides to leave the railway. However, they don't, and the four chase her down and discover that she's trapped on an old bridge. They rescue her just in time, and explain that she's still welcome to stay at the railway. Johnny apologizes, and the two become friends again.
007. Scout's Expedition
When her normal frieght route is closed, Scout chooses to go on an old mountain line. However, it proves to be longer that expected, and she has to race across shaky old bridges, through crumbling tunnels, and past tumbling trees. But her undoing comes in the form of an rock slide, which nearly buries her. That night, the engines are worried when Scout doesn't return to her sheds, and perpare a search party. Meanwhile, Scout is determined to make one last try and tears herself free from the rocks. The engines are suprised and overjoyed when they see her stteaming down form the mountains.
008. All Together Now
Mr. Capp is preparing to disembark from Johnny's train when he falls onto the trackisde. He is put in the hospital, but is in critical condition. Without him there, the engines continue their normal work, but they soon fall to arguing. Each one takes a protion of the railway, and their only interactions are done with extreme malice. While resting at the end of the line, Johnny is wondering how this happened when he meets his old friends Thomas, Dylan, and Dulcie, who have found their way back. Johnny tells the trouble on the railway, and Thomas informs him that he's been thorugh a similar problem and gives him advice. Johnny is eventually able to get the railway running again, but when he goes to tell Thomas, he finds that the blue tank engine is not there. Johnny is saddened by the disappearance of his friend, but he returns to find Mr. Capp will be all right.
