Tama Toshi Monorail Line
From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere
The Tama Toshi Monorail Line (多摩都市モノレール線 Tamatoshi Monorēru-sen?), also referred to as the Tama Monorail, is an important part of the Western Tokyo public transport network.
Operated by Tokyo Tama Intercity Monorail Co., Ltd., the double tracked, 16 kilometer monorail line carries passengers between Higashi Yamato and Tama in 36 minutes. Opened in 1998 from Kamikitadai to Tachikawa-Kita, the line was extended in 2000 to Tama-Center. Large deficits have caused the corporation to become insolvent.[citation needed]
Tachikawa-Kita (=North) and Tachikawa-Minami (=South) are the most important stations, enabling transfer to the JR East Chūō Main Line and Tama-Center transfer to Odakyu or Keio Railways.
