Workforce:Shining Time Station

Well, Bluegoblin7, I've done a lot of work on Workforce:STS for the past couple of days. Please take a look and tell me if you think I should add anything else. Thank you! --DalekX 22:38, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

My my, Dalek X, you really HAVE don loads!
As far as I can tell, thats it other than stuff which we should add when it's more established. If you look at Talk:Shining Time Station, you'll see a template. I can't remeber the link, but this needs to be added so people know what to do with it. It's basically a WikiProject Banner.
Cheers,
Bluegoblin7 22:42, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Alrighty then. I'll add that banner to the page. Wait, should it be at the top, or the bottom? Thanks!--DalekX 22:47, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok. The template itself goes ONLY on talk pages, but a link is needed on the workforce page so people know to add it!

Help and other general pages

Hi there. As you have created a number of Help pages here (from WP) could I please draw your attention to the discussion at Trains:Station Cafe (Buffet Car)#Cat names - Part 2. This is the first stage of rationalising non-article content across multiple Spotting World wikis. The intention is that common content will exist at Spotting World, being mirrored here in some way. Hence new pages ought to be created 'over there', rather than here.

This is a new idea, so it's going to need some prototyping before we 'go live'. Please keep an eye on the Station Cafe pages and the ToDo list for the latest news.

Would you please take a look at my user page?

I just deployed {{User steam}}, and, wherever I put it, there is a weird redlink below it. Tim Trent Talk to me 16:18, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Help:Main Page

Hi. Just wanted to say I think this page is incorrectly named. I assumed that it would be a help page describing the workings of the Main Page. But, as it is effectively a template about help to be displayed on the Main Page, it should probably be somewhere else, such as a subpage: 'Main Page/Help'.

If you agree, could you sort out the necessary moves please?

Thank you

(PS - don't forget the categories - I would suggest Category:Main Page templates, though I'm not immediately sure what it's parents should be.)

Hi

Hi Bluegoblin

As you have requested, I have created my account here and I can now help with anything that needs doing here. It may be a good idea to contact me back on en wiki as I am most active there. Thanks very much. Tbo 157 20:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Where do you want me to start? Tbo 157 17:13, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Hi Tbo, Sorry for the delay, i'm really busy...
Basically, we need help getting our workforces more established, various help areas started (i see youve helped with RfA), and similar things, aswell as the main page project (and if you can fix the temp were using - i would love it!). Also, we need help with portals for the projects, and doing something with the Trains:Community Portal. Please help with whatever takes your fancy: And if you wanna start a workforce, get the basic outline built up (like an under construction WP), and when it's ready, just add it to the list: there is no "Workforce council" as such yet, there pretty much allowed if there ready, and removed if they're not...
Thanks,
Bluegoblin7 14:07, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
PS-If you can help with bots (we need some: archiving mainly!), then it would be really greatly appreciated! Any more info, just drop as a bell!
Ill get started on the main page as it is important. If you disagree with anythign I do, pelase fell free to contact me. Thanks. Tbo 157 17:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Is it ok if I start a new page where I can develop a main page as the current main page seems to have alot of coding errors and it would be easier to just start from scratch.Tbo 157 18:02, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes please feel free to redesign anything, anywhere. May I suggest Main Page/Sandbox2?. Or just go over the current one (it's on the main page now... call it 'Redesign 3' on the talk page! Also, please feel free to add/change anything anywhere if it's too beurocratic. I am trying to get some things in place here, but sometimes they just appear to formal etc. One idea i think might be good is an assessment scheme, nowhere near as formal as WP, but still a scheme. it would help the picking of the selected content on the main page a lot if we had some GAs or FAs (but not necesarily called that!). Also, if you get bored of EVERYTHING else, then banners for the workforces need making/tidying. The Shining Time Station is the only one started so far... Bluegoblin7 11:28, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks very much for all the help and advice. As I said before Ill start work on the main page as it is the front page of the whole project and I will then move on to task forces and articles. Thanks again. Tbo 157 18:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok Tbo. I will speak to Tim about making you an Admin too... if it would hel p(i think you deserve it - if RfA were finished, then go for it!) Bluegoblin7 18:05, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks but I think there should be a discussion to achieve consensus for me to gain adminship first if that was the case. Regarding the main page, are you aware of any issues with the mediawiki software. The coding seems to be correct and Ive tried tests both here and on teh english wikipedia but the sections of the main page still doesn't appear in the relevant boxes. I will try talking to some experienced coders back on the english wikipedia to see if they have a solution. Thanks. Tbo 157 18:23, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Main page coding

Hi Bluegoblin7.

You may want to take a look at [1] and comment there as you created the new main page. Thanks. Tbo 157 13:16, 15 December 2007 (UTC) No need to worry about it any more. Its been sorted out by EdJogg. Tbo 157 18:11, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Thomas and Friends

Hi. I can't find the box-header page for the portal mentioned above. Where did you create it. Tbo 157 15:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I didnt - it was already there...?!?!Bluegoblin7 15:41, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I just checked but its not there. This is likely to cause problems with other portals. Tbo 157 15:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
The portal appears to be using Template:/box-header. We need to find a way to make these pages for each indivisual portal rather than a template for all the portals as it is now. Otherwise all the portals will end up looking the same. Tbo 157 15:52, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Should we create a page where users can list bugs or problems theyre having. That way it will give everyone in the community a chance to know what the problems are and trey to fix them. Tbo 157 16:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes definitely. That would be very useful! You can put them in the cafe or the works until you get the page set up! Bluegoblin7 16:22, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ill get the page setup now. Its houldn't take too long. Tbo 157 16:23, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok let me know where it is when youve put it online! Bluegoblin7 16:48, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Have a look at Trains:Bugs and problems.Tbo 157 17:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Cheers - is just what we need! Bluegoblin7 17:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Workforces

Ive added a load of proposed workforces to Trains:Workforces. You might want to do the same just so that we can get some ideas down. Tbo 157 17:53, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Ok will do - but i think before any more are actually made we need to complete the current ones! Bluegoblin7 17:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I agree and we might want to get more users to help with getting various processes up and running. We could invite participants of railway related WikiProjects on the english wikipedia to join. Tbo 157 17:57, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes i have done a bit of that - you for instance! I think Unisouth was going to come and do LT, but i'll aski him again...
I think the best thing to do is to just leave messages on the project talk pages over there. Unles you have another idea?
Bluegoblin7 17:58, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Leaving messages there seems to be best. Im sure users such as Simply south would join. Tbo 157 18:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok Have left messages at Uk Railways, Trains, Streetcars, UK Trams, LT, and have nudged Unisouth and spoken to Simply south. Thanks Bluegoblin7 18:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Great work. Tbo 157 18:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Will also leave one at some plane projects to try and get some members there.
Also, can you have a look at the STS portal too? Aswell as the THomas one - i will blitz them both (and the tram one) either later tonight or tmorrow. THanks, Bluegoblin7 18:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
This lists most railway related WikProjects on WP - wp:Portal:Trains/Wikiprojects so you can leave messages on their talk pages. Thanks. Tbo 157 19:50, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

The RfA process

Ill put this up for community discussion somewhere but do you think our RfA process should be called something else to distance ourselves from the wp process and also implement measure to ensure that candidates are judged on trustworthiness only. Tbo 157 19:55, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes i think that's probably a good idea. We also need to stress the point about it being a task, not a privelige! With the Station Cafe discussion I put 1 notice on the Community Portal talk page, and then sent every member a link to it - i wouldnt reccommend that now though as there are a lot more members! Bluegoblin7 19:59, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
But only about 5 of them are active. Tbo 157 20:04, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes i suppose - to be honest your probably best just asking me, you, Tim and EdJogg, cause were the only really active experienced users. Just my thoughts though. Bluegoblin7 20:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I think we should all put proposals up for discussion regarding the adminship process and the community can decide which one will be used. Tbo 157 20:11, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes that would work ok - mines the one on the RfA talk page. Im fine with that going through, with a few chnages which ill make later Bluegoblin7 20:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Getting it discussed seems to be the hard part. Tbo 157 21:05, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter

Sorry, I keep writing on your talk page but it seems to be one of the most convenient places to get opinions. Can I ask you if you think an optional weekly newsletter for the project would eb a good idea to keep up to date with new processes, new workforces etc. Thanks. Tbo 157 21:44, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes i do think that a newsletter would be helpful. I will have a go at one tommorrow. Aswell as the above though, it should include other things such as news etc.
Thanks Bluegoblin7 22:41, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Lynbarn

Hi, Bluegoblin.

Thanks for the welcome! I saw your invite on wikipedia, and thought I'd get a platform ticket, and see what it's all about. I've NEVER been a train spotter, but do have a life-long interest in railways, starting with my earliest memories from about age 2! My main interest is in the Lynton and Barnstaple - a Victorian narrow gauge line in North Devon, which is gradually being reopened after 70-odd years, but I enjoy other narrow gauge railways around Britain, and have a hand in one or two standard gauge lines too. I am also just getting back into modelling - in 7mm scale. Lynbarn 22:45, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello Lynbarn,
I too help at some heritage railways and I also model, but in 4mm scale.
Please have alook around and ask me if you need anymore help. Also look at the Workforces in case theres one that takes your fancy, and why not find the Lynton and Barnstable page and expand it a bit!
Thanks,
Bluegoblin7 22:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
