Need for a TSW-wide ToDo list?

This discussion was moved from Trains:Station Cafe (Mess Room) at ToDo list creation (26/11/07)

Anyone who has glanced at my user page will have noticed the burgeoning ToDo list. As I patrol changes to TSW, I try to correct problems as I go. However, sometimes there are too many changes, or the changes are too large for me to tackle in the limited time available. So, rather than ignore the problems I note them in my ToDo list for later attention.

It occurred to me that it would be more useful to have a Wiki-wide ToDo list, mainly aimed at maintenance issues rather than article formatting, content or licensing. (These issues should be identified using appropriate templates, as they are usually self-explanatory.) This would allow all users to contribute to improving the Wiki, and give an opportunity for would-be admins to show their stuff!

I would expect that a dedicated page will be required, rather than as a pretty box on a talk page, due to the large number of issues currently outstanding. The page would include sections for templates, categories, projects, Help pages, Station Cafe pages, policies, etc and any user could add items that needed attention. It would be useful if priorities can be applied to the tasks, but it may be sufficient to just identify the 'High Priority' tasks.

A number of the changes will be restricted to admins, due to page protection. These tasks should be identified as such, and admins should concentrate on these issues (which are llikely to be higher than normal priority anyway).

I think that Wikipedia, due to its scale, makes much greater use of categories for identifying changes. But over there there are hundreds of editors tackling thousands of problems, and we are a rather different scale!

So, should we have a 'global' ToDo list? And if so, where should it reside? Is it sufficient to create Trains:ToDo, or is there a better location for it?

Thoughts please?

WP has a "here are some tasks you can do" system that I have not investigated at all. I think, regardless of that, it should be part of the Station cafe, either within one of the existing "rooms" or in a room of its own. Tim Trent Talk to me 11:41, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm reckoning on an entirely mandraulic arrangement aimed at configuration and maintenance, rather than article improvement (which I think is the main thrust of the WP scheme). It can certainly be part of the Station Cafe, but I'm not sure it wants to be a 'room' like the others, as I envisage it working in a completely different way, and it's mainly aimed at admins/users rather than visitors.
So, we'd have Trains:Station Cafe (ToDo list), with a redirect/shortcut from todo (so we can get to it from ANYWHERE!), and a link from the right-hand end of the "Station Cafe sections" title bars (just labelled 'ToDo').
What d'you think? EdJogg 13:00, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Sold :) After all, if it does not sit well there it can be moved :) Tim Trent Talk to me 14:33, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I have identified a few new tasks for the list, so will kick of the to-do list at todo, linking to Trains:To-do Bluegoblin7 20:02, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
