- 1853
– The Huntingdon and Broad Top Mountain Railroad in Pennsylvania is organized. - 1942 – Chicago and North Western Railway introduces new streamlined passenger train equipment on trains north of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, such as the Peninsula 400 to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.[1]
- 1954 – Santa Fe Railroad drops the fare surcharge on the Chief after Union Pacific Railroad reintroduces its all-coach Challenger train. The Santa Fe also reduces the $15.00 extra-fare charge on the Super Chief to $7.50; the barbershop, shower-bath, and coast-to-coast Pullman (which ran through to New York City by way of the Broadway Limited and the 20th Century Limited) are all discontinued. The round-end observation car is also removed from Santa Fe's San Diegan service.
- 1956
– The Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railroad officially reorganizes as the Monon Railroad.[2]
