Lizzie is a shunting engine and one of the main characters of the series Tales from Southampton Harbor.

History

Lizzie was built in 1911, the last engine of her class. she pulled suburban passenger trains for several years before being transferred to Southampton Harbor during the grouping act of 1921.

There Lizzie met Thomas, Percy, James, and Richard. Thomas was intitially jealous of her because she was a better worker than he was. He tried to play a trick on her, but it went wrong and they became trapped on a collapsing pier. Together they were able to escape, and the two became friends.

Lizzie then proved to James that tank engines were really useful, and was accepted by the other engines. Since then she had many (mis)adventures, including pulling the express with Thomas when Richard was ill, nearly getting hit by a collapsing crane, and briefly disappearing after falling onto a garbage boat.

In 1967, the last steam engines were being withdrawn from service and scrapped. In November 1967, Lizzie and the other engines were withdrawn from service. As they were sent to seperate scrapyards, Lizzie's fate is unknown, although it is generally believed that she was scrapped.

Personality

Lizzie is a kind and intelligent tank engine, and a hard worker. She's not cheeky like Thomas, but she does have a sense of humor. Lizzie is also very pragmatic, but not a dreamer like Thomas.

Basis and Livery

Lizzie is based on an LSWR M7 0-4-4 tank engine. She's painted in sage green livery with yellow lining.
