User talk:Tbo 157

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere
This user is now an "Ex-TSW User", who stopped contributing to TSW in December 2007.
This user has since returned (just to be there to help out! as User:Tbo. They edit unfrequently, however.]]

I'll be editing less actively both here and on Wikipedia as I'll be increasingly more busy. However I will drop by to make the occassional edit to help out with things etc. Thanks. Tbo 157 21:35, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Tbo 157, welcome to Train Spotting World

If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.

There are very few rules here. The best summary is:

  • Respect other people's Copyright
  • Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
  • Do no harm

This is not an encyclopaedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.

It's always worth having a look at Station announcements every so often, too.

One of the first things you might want to do is to place {{talktome}} at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.

And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!

Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.

There is also a live chat room - see the left hand menu

Is Fan Fiction your thing? Check out our Fan Fiction area for further information.

If you need help with anything, try the FAQs or the Help pages, or pop over to the Station Cafe, and ask there.

And don't forget to tell your friends about us!

If adminship would help

We are still very much in the area of my having whims. Frankly being an admin is a lousy task, but if you think it would be useful I'm happy. Tim Trent Talk to me 20:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

Actually, if u r going to delete pages you need to be an admin. If you don't want to be for ever let me know and I'll remove the sysop rights. Meanwhile it is done. Tim Trent Talk to me 20:45, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

TSW Barnstar...

TSW-Barnstar.png The Missing Wheel
I award you this barnstar for fixing the mess i created and making a brilliant main page... now for the other projects (please have a break first - we don't want you to die...! --Bluegoblin7 17:51, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Wow. Thanks very much. And you did a good job too. Without the basic coding you put in, it would haev taken me alot longer. MAybe you can help me experiement with colours on the main page. Tbo 157 17:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes ok will ahve a look in a bit... (and f youre feeling brave, instead of the DYK section, we want to use {{Random portal component}}, but it aint working...) --Bluegoblin7 17:55, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Have re-replied to the 1 on Tim's page Bluegoblin7 14:13, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Can you help with {{Random portal component}}?

Hi Tbo can you help with this? It's not working - look here

Thanks

Bluegoblin7 14:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Try it now. Tbo 157 15:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Cheers Tbo - works perfectly!
Can you have a look at Portal:Thomas, and fix the stuff there?
CHeers
Bluegoblin7 15:31, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Its a blank page. What do you want me to fix? Tbo 157 15:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, you mean Portal:Thomas and Friends. Sure. Tbo 157 15:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Cheers Bluegoblin7 15:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ah. The above temp doesnt work on the main page... Bluegoblin7 15:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
It does. Try refreshing your browser on the main page while holding down the shift key. Tbo 157 15:57, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Ah Yes - but is there anyway of getting the right DYK pages rather than Templates? Bluegoblin7 16:00, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, thats the same problem Im having with the box-headers for the thomas portal. Tbo 157 16:03, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
ok - think u can fix it? Bluegoblin7 16:06, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I can try. Ive also discovered another problem where if a page is deleted and restored, the dates change. Have a look at the page history on the thomas portal. Tbo 157 16:07, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I have solved our box problem and the page you created now works!!! Bluegoblin7 17:01, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Great work. Thats one way of getting around the problem. Its obvious that we have a transclusion problem though. Using {{/box-header}} should actually be enough to use the correct box-header. Tbo 157 17:05, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

reset indent Yes it should - that portal was a copy of one I made at WP, and it works fine there...Bluegoblin7 17:06, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Portals...

Hi Tbo,

Two portals are now set up for going on the main page: Thomas and Shining Time. They do still need some more work, but that needs to be done by the editors who know more, and that's not me!

Cheers,

Bluegoblin7 10:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Ye, sure I'll woprk on them when I can. At the moment Im tryig to figure out the right codings for Mediawiki:Monobook.css. Thanks. Tbo 157 14:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Even if you can't look at them soon, could you possibly add them to the main page portals section in the right format?
Cheers,
Bluegoblin7 16:44, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Ye, sure. Tbo 157 17:46, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Re: Newsletter

Hi Tbo,

Just wondering what format you think would work with the newsletter, and also what else you would like to see on it.

And most importantly: a name! I think something railway orientated is in order...

When we have a name i'll create the page at Trains:xxx.

Cheers,

Bluegoblin7 16:18, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

I think we should have a workforce for it. It should be a brief version of wp:Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost. I don't think a whole news section is necessary at this point as its likely to get neglected looking at the amount of editors we currently have. I think a brief roundup of the week's issues, discussions, new processes, new workforces etc is sufficient. It can be somethign to attract users attention with such as getting mroe people to join a workforce. Regarding the name, what do you suggest. Just list some out or get other users to list some. I'll try and think of some too. Thanks. Tbo 157 16:30, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok. I was thinking something like Driver's Manual, Platform Ticket, or something like that. Bluegoblin7 16:33, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Platform assistant? Tbo 157 16:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes that might work. But i think that you and me, or at least a closed group, i.e. Tim, Slambo, EdJogg etc should sort it out - it takes too long getting anyone else involved! Or perhaps we could start it at Trains:Newsletter, and have the first one unamed, offering a barnstar for the best suggestion, and then using it. What do you think? Bluegoblin7 16:48, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
We could just have a discussion with all teh users. Tbo 157 16:45, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Now why didn't i think of that? Yes, let's take it to the cafe. left luggage seems the most appropriate... Bluegoblin7 16:48, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good. You might have to give the users a nudge though. Tbo 157 16:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

MediaWiki Help...

Hi Tbo,

I've had a few ideas, and Tim says there good to go, but i have no idea how to implement them.

1)For Christmas/New Year/Valentines Day (when we are 1) I would like to put up an image similar to Wps current donation drive, viewable on all pages but minimisable. 2)On the Recent Changes/Watchlist Pages, add stuff there

Thanks,

BG7 02:48, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Ye, sure. I'll work on that. Tbo 157 12:04, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks Tbo, if you can point me in the right direction I can rpobably do it myself.
Also, where can I find the bit that says From TrainSpottingWorld...? And is it possible to have a different one just on the Thomas related pages?
Thanks,
BG7 15:22, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Probably but I don't knwo how. Im having difficulty trying to understand CSS coding myself. I used MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Monobook.css but I think theres more css pages you have to edit. Tbo 157 15:25, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
w3Schools will help Tim Trent Talk to me 15:43, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Tbo 157 15:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
(edit conflict)
Ok. Is it possible to copy these anywhere so that i don't screw up the global scheme?
Thanks,
BG7 16:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
It won't have any effect as long as its not in the MediaWiki namespace. Tbo 157 16:58, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok Thanks a lot. BG7 17:03, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter...

Hi Tbo,

Are we ok to launch on Monday? I'll send the first issue out to the active members to gauge reaction - and way of making it collapsible for this purpose? Thanks, --BG7 19:41, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Why don't we just launch it now. Friday seems logical. Tbo 157 20:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Ok don't see why not. I'll just add a date! Did you find how to collapse it? BG7 20:19, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Ye, Ill do that. Tbo 157 20:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Site Notice...

If you can stretch it out so it's longer and thinner it should still have the same effect...
BTW, do you mind i I ask why you're having a break?
