- 1836 – The Jackson and Brandon Railroad and Bridge Company is incorporated in Alabama.[1]
- 1875 – The Cleveland, Tuscarawas Valley and Wheeling Railway is organized in Ohio.[2]
- 1901 – The Tennessee Central Railway is organized in Tennessee to build a railroad between Nashville and Lebanon.[3]
- 1950 – The first diesel-electric locomotive powered freight train on the San Diego and Arizona Railway, pulled by Southern Pacific 5217, leaves El Centro, California, eastbound.[4]
- 1960 – The Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad in Maine discontinues railway post office service with a final run using B&ML car number 73.[5]
