- 1838 – The Camden and Amboy Railroad in New Jersey receives authorization to purchase Belvidere Delaware Rail Road stock.
- 1948 – Santa Fe Railroad re-equips the Super Chief with all new cars from Pullman-Standard and implements a daily schedule for both it and the El Capitan between Chicago and Los Angeles.
- 1988 – The Illinois Central Gulf Railroad is renamed to Illinois Central Railroad.[1]
- 2000 – The United States National Mediation Board issues a decision in a dispute between Union Pacific Railroad, the United Transportation Union and the Broterhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen asserting that train crew reductions to a single employee do not constitute a new job craft or class.[2]
