Powderhall Binliner
From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere
The Edinburgh Powderhall Binliner is a containerised waste train (binliner) running from Powderhall in Edinburgh to a landfill site at Oxwellmains near Dunbar. The trains are currently operated by EWS on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council. The trains are often pulled because of the short distance between the places by class 37s but class 66s can substitute.
Current operations
The light engine comes from Millerhill TMD, attaches to the loaded wagons at Powderhall and runs to Oxwellmains. The loaded containers are removed there and replaced with empty ones, with the train running back to Powderhall. On arrival, the engine runs round in the loop before propelling the wagons into the loading siding, and then returning light to Millerhill.
