- 1850 – The Louisville and Nashville Railroad is chartered in Kentucky.
- 1873 – The Lake Shore and Tuscarawas Valley Railway files a supplemental certificate in Ohio to extend the railway to Washington Township.[1]
- 1956 – The last steam locomotive purchased new by Southern Pacific Railroad, cab forward class AC-12 4-8-8-2 number 4294, is retired from revenue service.[2]
- 1974 – Amtrak introduces the San Joaquins passenger train service between Bakersfield and the San Francisco Bay area.
