- 1920
– Metropolitan Street Railway's lease of the New York and Harlem Railroad (NY&H) in New York City ends and control reverts back to the NY&H. - 1981 – Amtrak inaugurates the City of New Orleans passenger train service between Chicago and New Orleans, Louisiana.
- 1984 – Amtrak reduces the length of the Silver Meteor passenger train service moving the Florida west coast terminus from St. Petersburg to Tampa, Florida.
- 2000 – Amtrak introduces electrified Acela Regional service.
