- 1875 – The Detroit, Hillsdale and Indiana Railroad, a predecessor of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, is reorganized as the Detroit, Hillsdale and Southwestern Railroad.[1]
- 1892 – The San Diego Electric Railway purchases the San Diego Street Car Company and the majority of its assets for $115,000.
- 1957 – After a series of landslides in California's Feather River Canyon in late 1955, Western Pacific Railroad opens a new tunnel 15 through one of the hills on the line, avoiding the slide-prone area.[2]
- 2001 – Wisconsin Central Railway (WC) and Canadian National Railway (CN) announce plans for CN to purchase WC for $800 million and the assumption of $400 million of WC's debt.
