- 1892 – California Southern Railroad abandons the section through Temecula Canyon, including Fallbrook Station.[1]
- 1935 – Pennsylvania Railroad operates the first test train using electric locomotives exclusively between Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.
- 1962 – The last Washington, D.C., streetcar completes its run at Navy Yard.[2]
- 1964 – Thomas Viaduct, in Maryland, the first multi-span masonry railroad bridge in the United States and the first to be built on a curve, is designated a National Historic Landmark.
- 1973 – Amtrak introduces the Inter-American passenger train connecting Chicago to Laredo, Texas, via St. Louis, Missouri, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dallas, Texas.
- 1998 – Preserved Boston and Maine Railroad Budd Rail Diesel Car #6211 is moved to Bedford, Massachusetts, for static display at the planned Bedford Depot Park.[3]
