- 1837 – The Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad line connecting Richmond, Virginia, and Hazel Run is extended to Fredericksburg, Maryland.
- 1869 – George Westinghouse files for a patent on his improved railway air brake.
- 1896 – Construction begins on the Northwestern Elevated line of the Chicago 'L' with the first structure erected at the intersection of Fullerton and Sheffield Avenues.[1]
- 1933 – The San Diego and Arizona Railway in California completes construction of a bypass track along the cliff at Tunnel 7 and the line is reopened to traffic.[2]
- 1980 – Western Pacific Railroad president R. G. "Mike" Flannery announces that an agreement has been reached for the railroad to be controlled by Union Pacific Railroad.[3]
- 1987 – The Disneyland Monorail System introduces its Mark V monorail trains from rebuilt Mark III trains redesigned to more closely resemble the Mark IV trains in use at Walt Disney World in Florida.
