- 1938 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway inaugurates the El Capitan passenger train service between Chicago and Los Angeles.
- 1939 – Puget Sound Traction, Light and Power officially abandons the Seattle-Everett, interurban line.[1]
- 1946 – Pullman-Standard delivers the first new passenger car in the United States built after World War II.
- 1982 – Chessie System officially abandons its branch line north of Manistee to Traverse City, Michigan.[2]
- 2006 – Chicago Transit Authority begins work on a capacity expansion project for the Chicago 'L''s Brown Line.
