- February 20 – Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway inaugurates the El Capitan passenger train service between Chicago and Los Angeles.
- February 22 – Santa Fe Railroad re-equips the Chief passenger train with ten new passenger cars.
- February 26 – A "borrowed" six-car Chief consist begins operating as the Super Chief-2½ due to production delays in order to provide twice-weekly service between Chicago and Los Angeles.
