- 1913 – A newly rebuilt Grand Central Terminal in New York City opens.[1]
- 1939 – Seaboard Air Line Railroad introduces the Silver Meteor passenger train service between New York City and Ocala, Florida.
- 1957 – The Texas and New Orleans Railroad, a subsidiary of Southern Pacific Railroad, donates locomotive 975 to the city of Beaumont, Texas.
- 1958 – Santa Fe discontinues train number 61, reducing the frequency of the Golden Gate passenger train service in California.
- 2005 – The Las Vegas Monorail system is shut down due to problems with the electrical system; it is reopened 12 hours later after the replacement of a 30-foot (9.14 m) section of the power rail.
