- 1829 – Baltimore and Ohio Railroad begins operating passenger trains to Ellicott's Mills, Maryland.[1]
- 1857 – The Atlantic and LaGrange Railroad in Georgia is reorganized as the Atlanta and West Point Railroad[2]
- 1884 – The John Bull is displayed at the Smithsonian Institution for the first time following preservation.
- 1965 – The state of New York purchases the Long Island Rail Road from the Pennsylvania Railroad.[1]
- 1982 – Western Pacific Railroad and Missouri Pacific Railroad are both merged into Union Pacific Railroad.[1]
