- 1829 – Carrollton Viaduct, the first stone masonry bridge built for railroad use in the United States and the world's oldest railway bridge still in use, is opened for service.[1]
- 1836 – The Western and Atlantic Railroad is founded in Georgia to build a railroad connecting Atlanta to Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- 1981 – The former Catasauqua and Fogelsville Railroad line east of Seiple, Pennsylvania, is abandoned by Conrail.
