Odakyu Enoshima Line
The Odakyū Enoshima Line (小田急江ノ島線 Odakyū Enoshima Sen?) is a spur off the the Odakyū Electric Railway's Odawara Line in Japan. It branches off the main line from Shinjuku at Sagami-Ōno and runs south to Fujisawa and Katase Enoshima, a distance of 27.6km. It was first opened for service with 13 stations in April 1, 1929.
It is a major commuter line, but also runs limited express services to the popular seaside resort of Enoshima. It competes with the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line for passengers travelling from Fujisawa to Shinjuku. This competition has stiffened since JR improved the frequency of its service in 2004. Odakyu responded by introducing a "Rapid Express" service which (in 2006) makes the journey in 54 minutes, and costs ¥570; the JR service takes 47 minutes and costs ¥950.
