Kawagoe Line

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

The Kawagoe Line (川越線 Kawagoe-sen?) is a 30.6 kilometre(km) railway line which connects the cities of Saitama, Kawagoe, and Hidaka in Saitama Prefecture in Japan. The main transfer stations on the line are Ōmiya, Kawagoe and Komagawa. It was opened in 1940, and electrified (1,500 V DC) in 1985. The 3.7 km Ōmiya Station to Nisshin Station section is double-tracked and the rest of the line is single-tracked. It is currently owned and operated by East Japan Railway Company (JR East.)

The Kawagoe to Ōmiya section operates as an extension of the Saikyō Line from central Tōkyō, with most services running to Ōsaki and on to Shin-Kiba via the Rinkai Line.

On the Kawagoe to Komagawa section, about a half of the services continue to and from Hachiōji via the Hachikō Line.

Except for a few rush-hour services that start and terminate at Minami-Furuya, there are no through trains operating between the west and east sections, and so passengers wishing to travel beyond Kawagoe from either side must change trains there.
