- February 3 – Chessie System closes the South Lyon and Fowlerville stations in Michigan.[1]
- February 14 – Grand Trunk Western Railway discontinues freight service on the Lakeland to Jackson, Michigan, line.[1]

- March 14 – The U.S. Railway Association announces that it had reevaluated the Northeast Corridor line segment between Groton, Connecticut, and Hills Grove, Rhode Island, and that this section of the line would be kept in operation for freight traffic.
