From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

Ozzie7, welcome to Train Spotting World

If this is the first time you've used a wiki you may have a few questions. Most of the answers are obvious. To learn to edit, why not just dive in? At the foot of the editing window there is a help link. This opens in a new window and gives you a good overview of wiki syntax and stuff.

There are very few rules here. The best summary is:

  • Respect other people's Copyright
  • Behave to others as you would like them to behave to you
  • Do no harm

This is not an encyclopaedia. Pages here do not need to comply with encyclopaedic notions or citations or neutrality. Just dive in and start.

It's always worth having a look at Station announcements every so often, too.

One of the first things you might want to do is to place {{talktome}} at the top of your talk page (this page) above this welcome message. Taking heed of what it says will make it much easier for you to follow discussions on talk pages.

And while you browse the site, and especially when you've created something truly worthwhile, why not Digg and also tag on del.icio.us – the tools are in the left hand menu. The more Diggs (etc) we have the better, because Diggs and del.icio.us links add to our findability. The best way to find out about them is to click on the tool. Each is different and each gives you the chance to "rate" any article here. Or anywhere else come to that!

"Snap", the little link preview window, has options in it that you can tailor to meet your needs. If you like it, stay with the defaults. If not then you can turn it off easily

Best yet you have a Spotting World Blog if you want it. Have a look at your User page. There is a link to let you create your blog. This is part of what Spotting World does for you. Or just go to blogs.spottingworld.com. You can use your blog for any lawful purpose. It's yours to do with as you like. Anyone can read your blog once you create it, but only you can write to it.

There is also a live chat room - see the left hand menu

Any questions, please ask any user on their talk page.

And please tell all your friends about us

Cleaning up Thomas and Friends Wooden Railway

Any chance you can take this on? It's hell on wheels to read and to edit. Tim Trent 22:18, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

'Thomas' articles

Please be very careful how you edit these articles. Your recent changes to Railway engines (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends) caused a huge number of problems, which I have had to revert to solve.

The 'Thomas' article structure has been carried over from Wikipedia, but it should remain largely intact -- changing the headings, as you have done, will NOT be tolerated, since these are used for the links from the Table of Contents at the top of the page.

If you want to add new pages for each individual character, then that is fine, but please make sure that you only describe characters that have actually appeared in the series. Characters for future seasons, unless backed-up by references, should NOT be added. If you add your own made-up characters, you de-value the whole coverage of 'Thomas' here.

So far I have been ignoring the 'Thomas' page edits, but I need to be certain that your contributions are improving the 'Thomas' coverage here, not spoiling it. The latter could be classed as vandalism, and will not be tolerated. Persistent vandals will be blocked from editing, since reverting vandalism is very boring for those that have to do it.

Please do not be put off editing by my comments above. Your contibutions ARE welcome here, provided they are not considered vandalism by your fellow editors.

Edit summaries for big edits

It took me a while to work out that you'd moved a great tract of text from one article to another. Dude, we need edit summaries for things like that, please! Otherwise people think vandalism, which this was not. Tim Trent 06:25, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Thomas & Friends - Season 12 - Formal Warning

some of its made up so can i put in the real bits i do know them ok

I'm not really sure what you mean. Anything 'made-up' can go in the 'FanFic' pages. As yet, there is NO genuine information about Season 12, so nothing else should go in there.
As I said in the section you deleted (this would not be tolerated on WP, by the way, but I'm too tired to bother tonight) there is only one basic ground rule about the FanFic area: Fan Fiction must be kept separate from 'real' articles, and that includes all the 'Thomas' pages.

Fan Fiction

i didn't copy it from TV.com i did it from the email.

The only reason I mentioned TV.com was because I had checked one of the 'episode' titles in Google, and I found what looked like a copy of the stories there.
By the way, even though the rules are less strict here than at WP, we are still bound by certain legal matters, and that includes copyright. (There is a possibility that, having been written at TV.com, they hold the copyright for it!)

What a Category is

Ozzie, a category is a kind of classification scheme. What you have created is an article with the title of Fan fiction characters in the category namespace.

So, what I am doing is moving what you have created to an article and then creating the correct category for your work. Bear with me, this will take a little unravelling. Tim Trent 20:10, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Ok, that was a bit complex. FanFic:Fan fiction characters (Thomas & Friends) is the article you put into the category namespace. The category also exists, and the {{Thomas}} template is updated.
The extra thing is that categories are hierarchical. So please don't put an article in a higher level if it is already in a lower one. If you have any questions please just ask me or EdJogg  — Tim Trent 20:26, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

You haven't put any licence information on this image. We can't have images with no licence information, so I have to delete it. If you upload pictures please include licence information. Work with us, please, Ozzie. Tim Trent 20:47, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

"Ideas" sections

so not just thomas story library books any ideas?

Conversations are much easier if you leave the original stuff, you know. The FanFic: prefix is for any fan fiction. Not even "just thomas", but it absolutely has to be rail related. But do, please, keep (eg) mini story library and wooden railway etc in separat articles, just prefixed "FanFic:" and with {{FanFic}} at the head of the page. Tim Trent 21:54, 6 October 2007 (UTC)

File:Scan0009.jpg

Please get used to this. Upload an image and also give information about licensing, or the image will be deleted, just as this one has been deleted. This is not Wikipedia. We do not warn, we just delete. Tim Trent 08:41, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

Image:M A D G E.jpg

This really is not as hard as you seem to make it. If you upload a picture it must have licencing information. It is not optional. And this one is deleted too. If you need help, ask. Tim Trent 22:00, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

Blocked for one day

You have persistently ignored requests and warnings not to upload pictures with no licence information. Image:Hector.jpg and reuploading Image:M A D G E.jpg was the last straw. We want you to be a good contributor here. Please be aware that subsequent blocks will at least double in length. Tim Trent 21:42, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
