The Midnight Special was the name of a passenger train formerly operated by the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The train ran on an overnight schedule between Chicago, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri. Its final runs departed on April 30, 1971.

The train referenced in the well-known Leadbelly song "Midnight Special" was not an actual train, but was a fictional creation of the songwriter.
