The Australian Railway Historical Society Queensland Division celebrates 50 years of operating rail tours in 2007. Our very first tour was by rail motor from Brisbane to Nambour in 1957. Since then the Society has very successfully operated in excess of 800 tours by steam, diesel, rail motor and electric trains to many destinations throughout Queensland.
The far western Quilpie branch line usually sees freight and stock trains only. It has been 12 years since we visited the area by steam train. Join us for a nine day safari to this unique outback township. What a great way to see the rich wheat, cotton, wool and beef producing areas of Southern and Far Western Queensland as you travel in the wooden heritage carriages hauled by steam locomotive AC 16 class 221A —the first time for this class of locomotive. This tour features daylight travel only with overnight stops at Dalby, Roma, Charleville and Quilpie. A free day has also been included in Charleville for you to either rest up or perhaps visit the failed experimental Vortex Rainmaking Gun or the Bilby Farm. A visit to the Cosmos Centre where you can experience the magical night sky and a "Starry Starry Night" is recommended. |
