- 1871 – Andrew Smith Hallidie is awarded a patent for his improvements to an "Endless Wire Ropeway", technology that is used in the San Francisco Cable Car System.[1]
- 1881 – The Port Huron and Northwestern Railroad opens, connecting Zion and Marlette, Michigan.[2]
- 1918 – As part of an effort to convert the Manhattan Beach line from passenger to freight service, the Bay Ridge line and New York Connecting Railroad open a new connection over Hell Gate Bridge.[3]
- 1932 – The last Arlington and Fairfax streetcar is operated in Washington, DC.[4]
- 1965 – MBTA closes the Walnut Hill station.
- 1968 – Santa Fe Railroad inaugurates the Super C freight service between Chicago and Los Angeles.
