- 1891 – The St. Louis Southwestern Railway is incorporated in Texas.[1]
- 1926 – An interlocking tower is installed at the junction of the Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railway, Pere Marquette Railroad and Pennsylvania Railroad in Carelton, Michigan, to replace a "stop and proceed" rule.[2]
- 1957 – Santa Fe Railroad's Super Chief and El Capitan are combined into one train during the off-peak travel season on a 39½-hour schedule.
- 1958 – Duluth, South Shore and Atlantic Railroad discontinues its last remaining passenger train service.[3]
- 2005 – General Motors officially announces its intent to sell its locomotive manufacturing unit, the Electro-Motive Division, to a consortium of Greenbriar Equity Group and Berkshire Partners.[4]
