- 1834 – The Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad is chartered in Virginia.
- 1851 – The Milwaukee and Mississippi Railroad, a predecessor of the Milwaukee Road, operates its first passenger train.[1]
- 1871 – The Mahoning Coal Railroad, a predecessor of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, is incorporated.[2]
- 1908 – The Hudson and Manhattan Railroad starts revenue service between Hoboken, New Jersey, and 19th Street, Manhattan.[3]
