- 1848 – The Cleveland, Painesville and Ashtabula Railroad, a predecessor of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, is incorporated in Ohio.[1]
- 1854 – The Georgia Western Railroad is chartered in Georgia.[2]
- 1880 – James P. Douglas resigns from the Tyler Tap Railroad and incorporates competitor Kansas and Gulf Short Line Railroad.[3]
- 1886 – The Kansas City, Memphis and Birmingham Railroad is incorporated in Mississippi.[4]
