- 1831 – The Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown Railroad, a predecessor of SEPTA, is incorporated in Pennsylvania.[1]
- 1869 – Henry Keyes succeeds Henry C. Lord as president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
- 1870 – The Jersey Shore, Pine Creek and Buffalo Railway is incorporated in Pennsylvania.
- 1881 – The first train operates between Norwood, and Lebanon, Ohio, on the Cincinnati Northern Railway.
- 1885 – Southern Pacific Railroad leases the Central Pacific Railroad.[2]
