- 1863 – The Reading and Columbia Railroad depot in Lititz, Pennsylvania, is dedicated with the arrival of the first passenger train there.[1]
- 1917 – – United States President Woodrow Wilson uses the Federal Possession and Control Act to nationalize American railroads under the United States Railroad Administration during World War I.
- 1976 – The second American Freedom Train tour ends in Miami, Florida.
- 1976 – The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority purchases lines in and around Boston from Boston and Maine Railroad (B&M) and establishes a contract with B&M to operate commuter trains over these lines.[2]
