Muswell Hill Railway
From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere
The Muswell Hill Railway was a short branch line from the Great Northern Railway's Highgate station to Alexandra Palace. The railway was opened in 24 May 1873 and closed on 3 July 1954.
In 1935 London Underground published plans (The Northern Heights Plan) to incorporate the line into its network as part of the Northern Line. Although much progress had been made on the conversion (platform heights, cabling structures etc), the advent of the Second World War caused the postponement and then cancellation of the project which were never restarted after the war.
