Mure railway

From TrainSpottingWorld, for Rail fans everywhere

The Chemin de fer de la Mure (the Mure railway) is a historical electrified railway still running near Grenoble. Built between 1882 and 1886, this railway is widely known for its unique location on top of a brick embankment and bridge. The railway was electrified 1903, using a symmetrical current power supply with two overhead wires at 1200V. In 1950, this non-standard system was replaced with a conventional power supply at 2400V. It runs at the leisurely pace of up to 30km/h.
