DL class
Clyde Engineering, Somerton, were given a contract by Australian National for 15 diesel - electric locomotives. Introduced in 1988, they have been working on mainline/intercapital freight traffic on standard gauge.
15 were built, numbered DL36 - 50. They are powered by an EMD 12-710G3 engine, developing 2460kW (3300HP) power, weighs 118t, has Co-Co axles, and have a maximum speed of 153km/h.
The DL Class were transferred to National Rail, and then Pacific National. They are mainly seen around the NSW area, but have also been seen in Victoria and Queensland. Nowadays, the class is usually marshalled as a second unit, usually behind an NR class. They have also been seen working in pairs.
The DL Class are seen in 3 different liveries: the Australia National Scheme, the National Rail Scheme and the new Pacific National Scheme.
DL37 was scrapped after the Hines Hill collision.
