The Abbeville and Waycross Railroad was founded in 1889. It began operations in 1890, running between Abbeville and Bowens Mill, Georgia. It eventually reached Fitzgerald by 1896 but was absorbed into the Georgia and Alabama Railroad shortly afterward.
